Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

I first read this in Super Team Family #4 and I always liked the Moon-Man's powers and design. He even appeared in a Batman cartoon in the 70s though he looked very different!

I may not have posted the first cover this month, but I can post the First Men in the Moon:

Happy 1st June everyone! New month, new subject. This is my favourite 'moon' cover and occurred to me as soon as someone suggested this month's theme. A wonderful Neil Adams cover.  Seems a strange place to exile yourself to - but that's another month surely...

Never mind Doomsday on the Moon.  What about a spider on the moon?

Well, making all of the weather on earth disappear is pretty serious stuff.

(and don't call me, "Shirley.")

Ah, Airplane. Definitely one of my favourite movies of all time.  Apparently the Shirley line came from a 1957 movie called "Zero Hour".

Anyway, enough of that.  Everybody note - the 5th of June is a full moon (apparently this one is called a strawberry moon) so I think we need to post extra covers on Friday, to celebrate.

Here's my next cover. Apparently Superboys breed on the moon. Who knew?

I think this is a record - six covers have been posted so far this month, and every one of them was a cover that I had lined up for possible use!  (Well, to be strictly accurate, I had the "Six Superboys on the Moon" cover from its original appearance on Adventure Comics #140, dated May 1949.)

I've also been having some problems viewing the website, and uploading covers.  They seem to have cleared up now, so here's another one from my diminishing stash.  Fortunately, I still have quite a few in reserve, and am unlikely to run out any time soon.

EC's famous title-changing comic. Issue 1 was Moon Girl and the Prince, issues 2-6 were Moon Girl, Issues 7 and 8 were Moon Girl Fights Crime and issues 9-12 were A Moon, a Girl ... Romance. Number 9 actually had the last Moon Girl story buried therein, according to GCD.

Here's an updated version of the spreadsheet and index of monthly themes, including the subjects that I think have been agreed for future months.

Please say if you think I've mis-stated any of the coming themes, or if you'd like to suggest a change.

I also had problems loading covers the past few days.  Here is “yesterday’s” cover which would have spanned May and June, but still works perfectly well today, although the moon is not a major element.
