A Cover a Day

Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

It is now after midnight where I live and since I will be away from my computer for most of Tuesday January 31, I wanted to make sure and get this bridging sequence between the January and February themes posted.

When the BBC originally canceled Doctor Who in the mid-1980s (the budget "savings" was used to fund game shows!), fans were naturally outraged and fought like heck to get the show back on the air.

The Sixth Doctor Colin Baker returned for one more season (#23), starring in the first Umbrella Season since Tom Baker's (no relation) "Key To Time" Saga of Season 16.

Hence the four adventures (presented here in chronological order) that composed "The Trial of a Time Lord".

And the conclusion...

Considering some of the changes in the series since the 2005 revival, I'm not sure if the plot point of who the Valeyard, the prosecuting Time Lord, turned out to be is still valid, but overall it was a fun adventure in the classic era. But you'll have to ask someone connected with Target Books if they have any idea why the quartet was released out of sequence.

I have to admit that this month has been a lot more challenging than I expected.  There are no less than 37 covers that I'd found which have been posted by others.  Thirty-seven!  That's (nearly) as many as four tens.  And that's terrible.

However, I've managed to post a cover each day, and I'm still not quite out of "Trials and Courtrooms" covers.  No transitions, sadly, but I do have enough left to end the month with a multi-cover post.

A Wolff and Byrd cover that hasn't appeared yet.

Some of the transition covers are prompting me to get a clarification.

I had the impression that heroes and villains called "Doctor" that are not medical professionals weren't included in the theme.

I think it would make cover selections a little too easy.  If they can't write a prescription or work in a hospital, do they fit the "hospitals, doctors and nurses" theme?

I'd suggest that covers depicting some sort of medical operation or procedure are also acceptable, whether or not there's an actual qualified medical professional involved.
