Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

Weddings are still a good source of line images, and this is probably one of the best comic book ones known.

Astro City #1/2 took an intimate look at the repercussions of battles involving the timeline. Pretty much the most striking story in the history of Astro City.

I feel a little guilty about this, but I've still got a lot of "Lineup" covers in hand, so I'm thinking of posting two covers a day for the remainder of the month.  I hope that the assembled company will forgive me.

I'll aim for one featuring the originally-suggested format of two groups lined up to fight, and one featuring some other sort of lineup.  For today, I've got two "planetary" covers.

"Planetary Brigade: Origins" #2 features two opposing groups lined up:

"Planetary" #18 features one group lined up for a photograph:

Only one of my covers all month was posted first by someone else, which is amazing. I don't have a lot left without beating the bushes for more. I'll be skipping Sundays so that I don't run out. For my part, I think more than one cover could be posted this late in the month if someone has a lot left.

More Justice Machine.  Are there any Justice Machine covers where there aren’t two groups facing off?

At this point I still have 10 or so non-DC/Marvel covers to go, as well as over 40 DC/Marvel covers that haven’t been posted yet —I think we’ve done a great job mining this theme.  I also have over 30 covers that would fall into “surrounded,” although that wasn’t in the original definition of the theme.  I can easily go back to our usual limit of three per day if we decide to do that.

The only reason I said that I was going to be posting only one per day is because there was concern early on that there wouldn't be enough to go around. I never intended that limit to apply to anyone else.

I think many-if-not-most of the covers posted this month will be DC. Because there has been concern expressed that there may not be enough to go around, I'll start with Marvel (and try to limit myself strictly to one per day).

I'll admit I was a bit concerned early on that we might run out of covers, but we've uncovered (no pun intended) a bunch of them.  There have been a ton of homages to JLA #56, but X-Men #100 homages have turned out to be a goldmine as well.

With this DC, the other line is being pushed off the edge of the comic:

"Okay, first, Batman starts swinging on that really long line hooked onto who-knows-what. Then, Hawkman, you start flying. Flash, try not to get there too soon. The rest of you, synchronize your watches for flight start times, and Atom.... Atom?!? Ah, dang! He's pulled a Leeroy Jenkins!"

For once Justice Machine isn’t rushing off, or facing down a group of bad guys, but it still looks like a line up, and they brought along some buddies this time.

Does one person per side constitute a "line"?

(Nah, didn't think so.)

Thanks for the okay to proceed, guys!

The JLA (yet again!) lined up as one of two opposing groups, facing...someone else.

The Blackhawks lined up as a firing squad.
