A Cover a Day

Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

As soon as this month's theme was suggested, this was the cover that sprang to my mind.  It's always the same - I get a clear picture of one particular cover as soon as I hear the theme - the rest of the month is a blank!  I loved this cover - we spent hours at school coming up with possible phrases that the two girls might come up with.

I remember someone saying this month's theme might wind up being all Julius Schwartz era covers and I wanted to find other sources, like this third example from The Brave and the Bold.

But what are the actual rules/guidelines for this month because the punctuation marks on some of the already posted covers look normal to me.

As I understand it-- and this isn't my topic, so I may be in error-- the punctuation is part of the cover (so, likely unusual or large question or exclamation marks) OR the cover ASKS the reader a question (which may involve a normal question mark).

Here's the latest update to the spreadsheet and index of monthly themes, together with a reminder of the themes so far agreed for future months.  I think that the themes for August, September and November are now agreed, after a certain amount of clarification as to what they mean.

Looks as if Dinosaurs/time travel was the 3rd best month ever, topped only by apes and dopplegangers. Just shows the choice of theme is all-important - especially when we get near the end of the month and the relevant covers become more scarce. I certainly didn't have that problem with time-travel - I could've posted another 20.  And I'd like to reiterate Jeff's thanks to Peter for supplying us with this valuable data - thanks Pete!
