A Cover a Day

Ok, how about this for an idea.  We take it in turns to post a favourite (British spelling) comic cover every day.  This went really well on the comic fan website that I used to frequent.  What we tried to do was find a theme or subject and follow that, until we all got bored with that theme.  I'd like to propose a theme of letters of the alphabet. So, for the remainder of October (only 5 days) and all of November, we post comic cover pictures associated with the letter "A".  Then in December, we post covers pertaining to the letter "B".  The association to the letter can be as tenuous as you want it to be. For example I could post a cover from "Adventure Comics" or "Amazing Spider Man".  However Spider Man covers can also be posted when we're on the letter "S".  Adventure Comic covers could also be posted when we're on the letter "L" if they depict the Legion of Super Heroes.  So, no real hard, fast rules - in fact the cleverer the interpretation of the letter, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

And it's not written in stone that we have to post a cover every day. There may be some days when no cover gets posted. There's nothing wrong with this, it just demonstrates that we all have lives to lead.

If everyone's in agreement I'd like to kick this off with one of my favourite Action Comic covers, from January 1967. Curt Swan really excelled himself here.

Early in my comics reading, before I read Superman and Batman, I was reading the Carl Barks Duck comics, Fox and Crow and some of Harvey's stuff, mainly Casper and his spinoffs. I was aware of Baby Huey from the adds and the spinner racks but never was inspired to check him out. I will always be grateful to Harvey for introducing me to The Sprit.

Baby Huey's diaper makes me wonder who changes him. A horrifying prospect.

On an earlier page it was note that EC's adaptation of Ray Bradbury's A Sound of Thunder was not cover-featured. This EC reprint comic corrected that.

We've had a lot of covers with soldiers firing rifles, machine guns and bazookas at T-Rexs and others. The rifles and machine guns fire bullets that may or may not stop a T-Rex but I'm pretty sure that a bazooka or other rocket launcher would do the job no matter where it hit.

Here's the previously-posted EC comic cover from Weird Fantasy #17 that references a Ray Bradbury story (posted on page 1088).  However, according to the GCD, the Bradbury story in this issue was "There Shall Come Soft Rains" (which I'm fairly sure doesn't feature dinosaurs), not "A Sound of Thunder" (which does).

We've also seen a cover from a Topps comic that did cover-feature "A Sound of Thunder".

Yeah, when facing off against any type of really large saurian, it's probably best to be carrying the sort of improbably large gun that featured in last month's theme.  Here's a couple of covers from Dinosaurs for Hire where it's the dinosaurs themselves who have guns that look easily capable of dealing with a T Rex.
