In all seriousness, this is a shame. I hope his friends and family are doing well.
The thing about Abe Vigoda is that the character he played on Barney Miller was a good 10 or 15 years older than he really was. But he played it so well, people really thought he was an old man. Hence the erroneous reports of his death in the '80s.
According to his daughter, Abe had never had a serious illness. He just died of "old age." Sounds like he had good quality of life all the way to the end.
