I didn't entirely get the intended construction of the jokes in the Sunday Bizzaro (Sp??) strip yesterday .   ( The strip appars to be not online , as it is a King Features Syndicate strip , who - Gasp !!! - appear to think they're in the comics business to make money , and keep their strips behind a wall . )

The joke was " variations on ' I Love New York ' "...but was the panhandler's shirt supposed to be saying " I Owe New York " ?"  I Have Zero , New York " ?

The yokel , in Middle Ages garb...Was his shirt suppost'a mean " I Love York " , as in the English county that New York was indeed named after ??? ( And Prince Charles is now considered the Duke of , if I recall correctly . )

So there you have it, from A to Z. Happy 100th Birthday, Charles Schulz!

Thank you for your efforts, sir!

Oh, very nice! Above and beyond the call of duty, sir!

ClarkKent_DC is a gentleman and a scholar!

While everyone is in the mood. allow me to recommend Peanuts: A Tribute to Charles M. Schulz.

Hardcover:

Softcover:

Like the cover says, "Over 40 Artists Celebrate the Work of Charles M. Schulz."

In addition to the comics, each artist provides a paragraph at the end of the book.

Here is what cartoonist Tony Millionaire had to say: "When I was in 6th grade I was a weird kid. My parents took me to a psychiatrist, the old fashioned kind with a wood-paneled office and a shrink's couch. He asked me what I liked to do. I said I like to draw comics. He said, will you draw me one? So I drew a four panel comic about my character Zero-Man. He was egg-shaped and flew through the air saying, 'I am the wonderful, terrific, spectacular, etc..." then he crashed into a telephone pole. '...Zero-Man.' The shrink said, 'Oh, do you like Peanuts?' I said, 'Yeah.' So he sent me home."

That story cracks me up.

Kelvin, I considered digging up all of the tributes to Sparky, but chickened out. Of the strips I follow, these are the only ones you didn't post.

Bizarro

La Cucaracha

I see that the Bizarro strip provided a hashtag:

#schulz100

I think there are probably more there.

It always bothers me that when the newspaper cartoonists do stunts like this, there usually isn't a place to see the entire collection. So it is with this tribute to Charles Schulz on the 100th anniversary of his birth.

Well, this time there WAS a place to see the entire collection, at the Charles M. Schulz Museum website! AAAUGH!

" A CARTOONIST TRIBUTE"

The site notes that there may be more out there.

This one gave me a real kick. I'm adding the strip to my King Features favorites.

Hagar the Horrible:

Looking at the strips on the Schulz Museum site, I asked myself how I missed Crankshaft. I was following it on the King Features site. The computer that just died was persistently treating mouse hovering as clicks. I had accidentally "unfavorited" Crankshaft. Now I have to catch up with the ones I missed. (Won't tell you how many)
