I didn't entirely get the intended construction of the jokes in the Sunday Bizzaro (Sp??) strip yesterday .   ( The strip appars to be not online , as it is a King Features Syndicate strip , who - Gasp !!! - appear to think they're in the comics business to make money , and keep their strips behind a wall . )

The joke was " variations on ' I Love New York ' "...but was the panhandler's shirt supposed to be saying " I Owe New York " ?"  I Have Zero , New York " ?

The yokel , in Middle Ages garb...Was his shirt suppost'a mean " I Love York " , as in the English county that New York was indeed named after ??? ( And Prince Charles is now considered the Duke of , if I recall correctly . )

...The Oct. 25-27 strips of BALDO ran an unusual story about censorship of vintage comics - basically coming out in FAVOR! of it!

I just reread those dates. The strips weren't talking about censoring comics. They were talking about the ethnic stereotypes.

...Well, the strip shows Baldo' s father sticking
these vintage (Mexican, I assume. I've never heard of 'em.) comics in the trash can and walking away!

The comics shown weren't actual comic books from that time. They also weren't Mexican, since they were using the same type of phony accented English that was prevalent in the movies those days. He was rejecting the stereotypes when he threw them away. Here are the three strips:

...So there was. never a comic about a character called Sancho Burro?

Just like there isn't a Gotham City.

...The presentation is somewhat different than a standard " fictional city "!!!!!!!!!!! The way it was presented, one could easily think that a real, actually published, comic book was being talked about.

"So there was. never a comic about a character called Sancho Burro?"

Apparantly not. (A brief Google search yeilded no results.) Perhaps the name is similar to an actual character whose name cannot be used for copyright purposes or something like that. If so, readers of that comic would get the reference. In any case, the stereotype certainly exists, and that's the point of the strip.

The Spider-Man strip has a crazy story going on right now. In Florida, Curt Connors is bitten by an alligator. He gets a transfusion of Bruce Banner's blood, and then Banner needs a transfusion of Spider-Man's blood. Connors then, of course, turns into the Lizard and Banner is close to turning into the Hulk. The mixing of the two radioactive bloods between the characters hasn't been exploited yet but I'm sure it will.

I know I shouldn't be, but I am really, really surprised that nobody present who knew better -- that is, Curt Connors, Bruce Banner, Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson -- didn't stop and say that a guy who has radioactive blood should NOT transfuse his blood into another guy with radioactive blood.

Yet they were so, so careful about pointing out that Conners's blood type is AB-negative and Spider-Man's blood type is O-negative, the type that can be given to anybody.

Still, I am watching with bated breath with one question in mind: What will go wrong?

This must be the only hospital in Florida that doesn't have O-negative blood for just this purpose. My mother was O-negative.

Some commentary on the strip claims that AB-negative people can receive A-negative and B-negative blood, which I'm pretty sure is untrue.

Actually, that is correct, according to this from the Blood Center: "Blood Facts"
