I didn't entirely get the intended construction of the jokes in the Sunday Bizzaro (Sp??) strip yesterday .   ( The strip appars to be not online , as it is a King Features Syndicate strip , who - Gasp !!! - appear to think they're in the comics business to make money , and keep their strips behind a wall . )

  The joke was " variations on ' I Love New York ' "...but was the panhandler's shirt supposed to be saying " I Owe New York " ?"  I Have Zero , New York " ?

  The yokel , in Middle Ages garb...Was his shirt suppost'a mean " I Love York " , as in the English county that New York was indeed named after ??? ( And Prince Charles is now considered the Duke of , if I recall correctly . )

...When I re-looked it seemed that Gilchrist had enjoyed doing kid characters for 50 years, including a self-owned project he's going to concentrate on.

  Gilchrist additionally wrapped up the strip by, IIRC:

  Declaring that two white-ponytails Vietnam vet truckers,  both?? Phil' s uncles, who were Phil's Cupids for his proposing to Frigzi, were getityerally out of town, but their guardianship.combined with a look in being done by a charity, kept Sluggo under enough supervision so as to explain this single digit-aged child to seem to live alone.

  But now, they were giving up the road and would be full-time parents to Sluggo. They appear to take tips from Aunt .ay on " Looking like a PROPER Old Person In Comics:-)!!!!!!!!!!!

  For a moment there, I thought married Fritzie and Phil were going to ADOPT Sluggo, but...Though that might've been okay in Victorian times...Not Now:-#!!!!!!!!!!!

  I haven't looked again at the strip' s place to see what happened till I've finished this, I have now<wink>!

...On GoComics (and presumably in some newspapers somewhere), NANCY has now gone into Gilchrist reruns, starting with a it-said 2013 sequence the strip itself describes as a " reboot " of Bushmiller's version of how Sluggo and Nancy met. I'm unclear whether these or I things are colorized from the original or if it was still " true " B&W in 2013. Are any syndicated strips sill " true " B&W? BROOM-HILDA and ZIPPY were (though ZIPPY had a colorized version also allowed by Griffith but not the " real " one, if you see), but I don't see either now.

Popeye and Alice the Goon I can see, but how is it the Tribune Syndicate is able to use Simon Stagg? Surely DC Comics would control the use of that character...?

How can Tribune Syndicate use Simon Stagg? Well, if it got to litigation*, Tribune would likely assert its use of Stagg was "fair use" or "parody," which are permissible.  

*I am duty bound to note that I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV.

This week Dick Tracy is doing another week-long “Minit Mystery,” this one loosly based on the murder of George Reeves by guest artist John Lucas. I’m not familiar with Lucas’ work, but it’s kind of ugly (IMO) and not at all suited for Dick Tracy.

Re., the end of the story: why is more impossible for a suicide to fall on a spent casing than a murder victim? Either way the casing was ejected, and he fell on top of it. I assume the suspect viewed the body. The suspect could have gotten the powder on his/her hands then. It's a flimsy case from what I can see.

Tracy informs us that the suspect was found guilty after a trial. Therefore, he/she pled not guilty.
