I didn't entirely get the intended construction of the jokes in the Sunday Bizzaro (Sp??) strip yesterday .   ( The strip appars to be not online , as it is a King Features Syndicate strip , who - Gasp !!! - appear to think they're in the comics business to make money , and keep their strips behind a wall . )

The joke was " variations on ' I Love New York ' "...but was the panhandler's shirt supposed to be saying " I Owe New York " ?"  I Have Zero , New York " ?

The yokel , in Middle Ages garb...Was his shirt suppost'a mean " I Love York " , as in the English county that New York was indeed named after ??? ( And Prince Charles is now considered the Duke of , if I recall correctly . )

According to his Wikipedia page, Wiley Miller moved with his wife and four dogs from Santa Barbara, California to Kennebunkport, Maine, in 2004. He claims it's easier to get work done when the weather makes going outside not your first choice. Ironically, Kennebunkport is the location of the Bush family vacation compound.

I don't know what other comics the Dallas Morning News carries, but Nancy seems an odd choice to replace Non Sequitur. There are other strips that have some Far Side DNA that would seem a more natural choice. Maybe they were "over-correcting," figuring Nancy is unlikely to get the paper in trouble.

It's not the DMN that's replacing Non-Sequiter with Nancy; it's the Tacoma News Tribune and Olympian.

That is an odd choice, though.

...A belated thank you, Jeff. I speculated on Comics Kingdom 9n the past - I'm...did I say this above??? Well, Tscoma's in the same region as Portland so perhaps some spillover hipsters there!!!##
Yesterday was the last THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Sunday of the Roy regime. No more for now, till!!!

Nope. Peanuts remains at the top of the page. Blondie is, however, at the bottom (just under "Get Fuzzy" ).

Old-timer strips Blondie and Peanuts are at the bottom of their respective columns . Do you see this pattern in your locals , " Oldies at the bottom of the pile " - ?

...I see you missed my earlier, separate, post about this, Pete.

On a recent trip back home to Georgia, I picked up a local paper somewhere in Virginia that featured Archie. Yep, the classic Archie all of us old timers grew up with (not that I'm opposed to the "new" Archie. I'm glad the Archie Comics folks have taken steps to keep the characters relevant). Is the newspaper strip just digest style reprints; or, are they original material?

No, I didn't, but your post didn't have the accompanying article.

Until now, that is.

...I haven't seen it in a while, but my understanding is that it's reprints - with some slight art retouching to make phones & TVs smaller.

It's been reprint a pretty long time - in 2011 it was already reprint, then ran a last new Sunday on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, which also gave Kevin Keller an appearance in the strip version. Who were these reprints by? DeCarlo? Goldberg? The Archie artist who escaped me now whose son was a minor teen idol?

The Washington Post notes that Olivia Jaimes has been with the new Nancy strip for a year: "‘Nancy’ and Artist Olivia Jaimes Continue to Make the Comics Page ...
