Wait ... wasn't Legacy supposed to be a fresh start?

And it didn't take long for them to go back to the new #1 issue gimmick, did it?

  • Seriously, what brought me back was the legacy numbering. I'll probably drop all these titles when they re-launch.

  • Me as a kid: "Oooh, wow, a new #1!"

    Me now: "***, another ******* #1?"

  • This is the fourth ASM #1 in twenty years; the third one since 2014.

The mind boggles.  Giving up on Legacy so quickly - virtually admitting it was a complete flop - and doing yet another relaunch, just puts me in mind of the old cliche of rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.  "You get get a new issue #1, and you get one, and you ... ".  That old trick, again?  Again?  Can you smell the fear and panic at Marvel?

On the other hand, Ryan Ottley on ASM is a solid get, and I have liked Nick Spencer's work in the past (at least pre-Captain Hydra), so I'll give it a try.

Honestly, if Marvel would have stated up front that "legacy numbering" was a short-term sales ploy, (counterintuitively) I would have probably bought more of them. As it is, I feel foolish going to the amount of effort I did to hardcopy the numbering schemata. The cynic in me notes may of the series reaped the benefits of a numbering milestone.

    Meh.
  • Yes, and the milestones were what motivated me. I probably wouldn't be getting Moon Knight, except that it's seven or eight issues away from a milestone. I certainly wouldn't be getting Peter Parker, Spider-Man (or whatever it's called), except that it was teetering on #300 (and now that it's made it there, I'm done).

I am getting a number of titles that have movies or TV series coming up, like Deadpool, Legion, Thanos and Venom, so altogether I'm getting quite a few Marvel titles.

But they are quickly chasing me away from a number of them.
