Speaking as a pirate, I want to say I'm offended by this "sociopathic" slur and similar anti-pirate clichés. I see myself as in the motivation business. We specialise in asset transfers and have achieved the reunion of whole families. And we've been very involved in keeping our local sharks fed.
Everyone goes on and on about Blackbeard, but your average doctor of his time killed more people.
It's more fun for kids to pretend to be imaginary sociopathic pirates, even if their parents won't let them have a bottle of rum or a parrot. The kids could get in trouble if they were caught playing doctors & patients -- "ok, I'm the doctor, so take off all your clothes and lay still as I place some leeches on you."
If a bad man is a man who transgresses against his conscience, it must follow we pirates are among the best.
Again: bravery is a virtue, but "conscience does make cowards of us all" (Hamlet 3.1). So to have more conscience is to have less virtue.
Neither has gold a conscience, yet all men desire it.
And I have never met a zombie pirate. I don't believe they exist.
I understand zombies can't eat salted food or they remember they died and go back to their grave.
