‘Astro City’ TV Series Based On Comics In Works At FremantleMedia N...

Color me ambivalent about this news. I think it's an interesting idea, but I wonder how they'll do it. I couldn't imagine it being something other than an anthology series, but we'll see.

It probably should be an anthology series, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was kind of like Legends of Tomorrow, with a core cast and several players who get rotated out.

Considering how successful Black Mirror has been, I wouldn't be surprised if it did turn out to be an anthology series. I could see "Black Mirror with superheroes" being a pitch a network could get behind.

It should be like the book. It’s about Astro City First then the heroes that inhabit it.

Without seeing the title, it should be recognizable as Astro City. I like to see creator-owned properties generating profits but hate when they deviate too much from their basis. I know that movies and TV have different needs, but comics are cinematic and be relatively easy to adapt. I hope that Kurt Busiek's ending the periodical means that he will be deeply involved in the series.

It would need a lot of money to be done right, and as we know, they should adapt existing comic book stories rather than have TV writers make them up. But I doubt either thing will happen outside of Netflix.

I got the latest issue of Astro City, and on the letters page Kurt Busiek said the intention is turn the book from a monthly to a series of graphic novels.

Yes, I know, but not having to produce a periodical on a more-or-less regular schedule should allow him time to be involved in the series.
