I created this list for my own purposes (I needed to be able to keep track of these things, too often I found myself having purchased books I already owned), but I thought I would share it. This includes every book I currently own (that I have read, I have a couple that I haven't read yet) that is either about Japan or the Japanese or was written by a Japanese person. It doesn't represent every such book that I've ever read - I've gotten rid of a few books over the years. It also doesn't include manga, although it does include books about manga.

I relatively recently read WWII Japanese internment memoir FAREWELL TO MANZANAR , co-written by the Japanese-American woman to whom it happened...and her Caucasian-American husband , who , in fact , had the copyright , IIRC .
Interesting- I haven't seen that one. I shall have to look it up.
Updated with The Old Tea Seller- Life and Zen Poetry in 18th Century Kyoto, by Baisaō. Baisaō was a Zen Buddhist priest, who gave up the religious life to sell tea, becoming one of Old Kyoto's best-remembered eccentrics.
Updated with The Devotion of Suspect X, by Keigo Higashino. An entertaining little detective story. A woman kills her ex-husband, and a neighbor who's sweet on her offers to help her cover it up. Riveting stuff.
