I didn’t post this to the “Captain America” thread because I’m not convinced this is a Captain America series, per se; in fact I’m not quite sure what this is, but yesterday was light so I thought I’d give it a try. It’s written by Ben McCool and drawn by Craig Rousseau, a creative team with whom I am wholly unfamiliar. The art style doesn’t appeal to me and the script demonstrates the writer doesn’t have a firm grasp on Captain America’s speech patterns. The story begins as an odd group of Avengers (Cap, Iron Man, the Beast, Vision, Scarlet Witch and spider-Man) are fleeing (yes, fleeing) an odd grouping of villains (the Living Laser, Maelstrom, Super-Adaptoid and Quasimodo). I’m not sure what this story has to do with the original Korvac saga, or even if it’s in continuity. At the end of issue #1, the Guardians of the Galaxy (plus Firelord) arrive in a full page panel. Is anyone else reading this? If so, I’d appreciate it if you could explain what the hell is going on.

  • "The actual story I'll be telling won't have much to do with the original. It's almost an ode to it,"

Personally, if I bought something called Captain America & The Korvac Saga, I'd kinda hope and expect (would that be "hope & expect"?) that it, you know, had something to do with the Korvac Saga. Maybe that's just me.
  • It's strange that it focuses on Cap, who was one of a huge cast of characters. They could have easily spotlighted Thor or Iron Man. Or Quicksilver or Moondragon, for that matter.

  • I haven't read it yet, but it sounds kind of like the recent Infinity Gauntlet series--out of continuity, out of character, and pointless.

  • I read the Infinity Gauntlet mini too, Rich, and it read like a "Marvel Adventures" book, or whatever Marvel's kids line is nowadays. (Dr. Doom seemed more like the Super Hero Squad version, too.) And as if to buttress that, the last page house ad was for other books in the Marvel kids' line. So I just assumed I had inadvertently stumbled into the kids line, and that the Korvac Saga book would be like that, too, and canceled it from my pull list..

  • It's not just you.

  • When it comes to these type of minis, only the Paul Tobin ones are worth reading in my opinion.

  • Of course there's nothing wrong with titles marketed to younger readers, but there should be a clearer division between the two.
