Comic Book Colleges

I don't know why I've been thinking about this lately but I was trying to come up with all of the fictional universities and colleges in comic books.

Peter Parker attended Empire State University (ESU).

Dick Grayson attended Gotham University.

Al Pratt (Atom I) attended Calvin College.  (It was supposed to be a pun on the name of former president Calvin Coolidge but the creators of the character didn't realize that there's actually a Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI which happens to be my alma mater)

Ryan Choi (Atom IV) was a professor at Ivy University

And, of course, the X-Men are based out of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters (high school) and Xavier Institute for Higher Learning

Any others?

  • Superman attended Metropolis University.

    Supergirl went to Stanhope University.

Dick Grayson actually attended Hudson University in upstate NY.

Johnny Storm and Jean Grey both briefly went to Metro University.

  • The name of The Invisibles comic series came from the idea of an 'Invisible College' - a secret brotherhood guiding humanity's destiny from the shadows throughout history, which was actually believed in, in some quarters, for centuries.

There are tons of references to institutions of higher learning in Morrison's work.  He was self-taught and never made it into college, so it's something that he has a certain attitude to.

    TOWNIES!

    :)

  • Does anyone recall what University Reed, Ben and Victor Von Doom attended way back in FF #4?  I believe Red and Sue go back to visit in FF #35 when Diablo creates Dragon Man.

That's what I get for trusting Google.  Is it possible that Grayson attended different universities at different times?  Maybe he went to Hudson University in Batman/Detective and to Gotham U later on in New Teen Titans?

Johnny Storm and Jean Grey both briefly went to Metro University.

Thanks.  I knew that Jean Grey went to college briefly but I couldn't remember its name.

What about Hawkman?  Wasn't Carter Hall a professor of archaeology at some point?

  • Thought of another one, though it didn't originate in comics: Henry Jones, Jr. (Indiana to his friends) taught at Marshall College and Barnett College.

  • IIRC, Bruce Banner’s Alma mater was revealed in Captain Marvel #21 and/or Hulk #226. You might also want to check FF #267. (I think several might have been mentioned.)

  • Ryan Choi (Atom IV) was a professor at Ivy University.

Ray Palmer worked there as well.

Anyone remember where Professor Stein (Firestorm) taught?

  • Dick Grayson may not have attended Gotham University but the DC wiki lists Jonathan Crane (of Scarecrow fame) and Stephanie Brown (aka Spoiler) as students there.  However, in animated continuity, Jonathan Crane, Pamela Isley and Barbara Gordon all went to Gotham State University instead.

  • Lois Lane and Pete Ross both attended, and graduated from, Raliegh College.  (Lois Lane # 55 [Feb., 1965], et al.)
