I haven't bought any books from Comixology yet -- though I suspect it will be the way I catch up on Irredeemable and Incorruptible, and other Boom material that interests me -- but I was wondering if anyone knew why the last new releases on the Comixology site are from last Thursday? I thought DC released their books on Wednesdays, and I'm always curious to see what lines they're starting or expanding.

I'm planning on writing about non-paper comics in general and ComiXology in particular. I will say that I've now bought several comics from them despite my usual reluctance to read comics on a computer. I hated Irreedemable when I read the first issue but there was a sample of Incorruptible on ComiXology and I loved it enough that I've bought the first two issues thus far. I've also bought the first volume of Mage, a series I've been curious about before but never read. I'm only one issue in but did like it.
Rob, I think ComiXology did their releases on Thursday last week because print comics weren't released until Thursday.
I thought I might use this thread to examine DC's output every week; maybe a week-by-week analysis will reveal something about their digital strategy. Or not, but worth a try, I think.
The following comics continue their runs with one comic each: Authority, Bayou, Fables, Gen13, Green Lantern Corps, High Moon, Generation Lost (day-and-date), Mirror's Edge (finishing its run), Night Owls, Sandman, Stormwatch: PHD, Supernatural: Origins, Unwritten, Wildcats.
New series introduced include: Azure (a Zuda title, and free), Kingdom Come, Planetary/Batman (a one-shot that follows up last week's Planetary/JLA), and The X-Files issue 0.
Some lines got multiple issues released.
First up are 3 issues of Action Comics -- 849-851. For a couple weeks, DC was releasing one issue of the Last Son storyline a week. But because of the infamous delays and fill-ins in that story, they're still releasing one issu of the story a week -- but also the last two weeks have included the fill-ins, as well, leaving no breaks.
Batman, on the other hand, is all fill-in -- 659-662, the 4 issues of the Ostrander/Mandrake Grotesk storyline that broke up Morrison's run.
DMZ seems to be releasing 3 a week after its initial offering of 5: 9-11 this week. Also like last week, Jonah Hex has 2 new issues, and Spuerman/Batman has 3.
Green Lantern (in addition to the GLC book) gets 2 issues -- one more issue into Secret Origin, and another into The Sinestro Corps war. They're trying something different with this one, serializing two stories at once.
Not continued from last week was Victorian Undead, which left off at issue 3.
Along with Azure issue 1, DC's other freebie this week is a short origin of Green Lantern.
Anyway, I don't know what all this will tell us, but I'm interested in getting it all down and finding patterns in their release schedule.
On the other hand, I just tried to read a free preview of The Unknown on my desktop PC, and was so thrown by the interface that I doubt I'll be buying a digital comic until I have an iPad. I read on on a friend's and it was completely intuitive. On my desktop it was a total mess.
My comics shop went to Comixology about a year ago; mostly it's been fine, but today they came up short on Birds of Prey and Astro City: The Silver Agent.
Something else I noticed -- after one a week for 3 weeks, there was no issue of All-Star Superman released this week.Maybe those three Actions this week took up all the space they wanted to use for Superman.
Once Kingdom Come is finished (assuming they post all four), I wonder what would come next (assuming it has a "slot"). New Frontier, maybe?
There's also not a lot of old material up yet. I assume that's mostly a function of what DC expects online readers' tastes will be, but I wonder if there are also contracts that have to be hammered out with creators, in the same way that Showcase volumes reprinting material from the late 70s have been delayed. Right now I think the oldest book they've got up is the first issue of the George Perez Wonder Woman relaunch.
One thing I'd like to see up eventually -- short runs of canceled series. Shadowpact, Chase, etc. Things that probably aren't in line to be collected (or, at least, have their collections reprinted -- though it's criminal that Case was never put in trade). Every year, there are a bunch of books that fall through the cracks, and it'd be nice to see some get another lease on life online.
DC's Wednesday releases seem to be now lumped in with the Thursday releases of other publishers on Comicology's New Releases page. But two additional issues also slipped in: The missing All-Star Superman #4, and Batman #407, the third part of Miller & Mazzuchelli's Batman: Year One. I wonder if those have the original coloring, or the remastered version done for the hardcover.
Like Wonder Woman #1, Batman: Year One was released in 1987. So those are the oldest comics DC is offering digitally right now, and 1987 is the year to beat.
