DC Cuts Ties with Diamond Comic Distributors

The publisher will no longer distribute through the industry leader in comics distribution

In a seismic shift for the comic book industry, DC has cut ties with Diamond Comic Distributors. The announcement was made via an email to retailers sent Friday morning, with the company telling customers that all orders for DC product will be fulfilled by Lunar Distribution and UCS Comic Distributors for periodical releases and Penguin Random House for graphic novels and collected editions.

  • This was crazy news, Cap. In retrospect, I guess we should have seen it coming.

  • Not sure what to think of this.

    Unlike Travis Herrick, I don'y know how we should have seen it coming, unless "it" has something to do with the damage to just about everything caused by the pandemic.

    Could it have something to do with the fact that DC is owned by Warner Brothers, which has it's own arrangements for periodicals?

    In any event, hope this doesn't wind up being a replay of the 1990s distribution issues.

  • Pretty amazing news... in a normal week, I'd be obsessing about this. As things stand, though, I've barely given it any thought. 

    I hope it works out better than the naysayers think it will. But I can certainly understand why they're worried. At the very least, there's going to be a lot of uncertainty and growing pains right at a point where a lot of stores need every bit of dependability they can get.
