DOMINIQUE LAVEAU: VOODOO CHILD is the story of a half-breed, outcast and heir to the Voodoo Queenship of New Orleans, if she can live long enough to claim her birthright. New Orleans is the most haunted city in America: a town of centuries-old ghosts and newly drowned spirits; where vampires, voodoo spirits and loups-garous make their home. Ruling over this all are the powerful Voodoo Queens, whose influence stretches into politics, business and crime as they maintain a delicate balance between the mortal and supernatural worlds.

But in the aftermath of Katrina, all that has changed, for someone or something has murdered the Voodoo Queen and most of her court. The number one suspect is Dominique Laveau, a grad student at Tulane who is about to discover that her entire life has been a lie. Now Dominique must forge alliances with those out to kill her while seeking to uncover the truth behind the royal murders, as she is ultimately forced to deal with a destiny she could never have imagined. Voodoo Child is a new monthly series written by Selwyn Seyfu Hinds, former editor-in-chief of The Source magazine, award-winning author, journalist and TV producer, with art by Milestone Media co-founder Denys Cowan (THE QUESTION) and covers by Rafael Grampá.

Another vampire/zombie comic? Really, Vertigo?

Trust us. This is different.

In post-Victorian England, nearly everyone of the upper classes has voluntarily become a vampire to escape the lower classes who are all zombies.

Into this simmering cauldron is thrust Chief Inspector George Suttle, a lonely detective who’s got the slowest beat in London: investigating murders in a world where everyone is already dead!

But when the body of a young aristocrat washes up on the banks of the Thames, Suttle’s quest for the truth will take him from the darkest sewers to the gleaming halls of power, and reveal the rotten heart at the center of this strange world.

THE NEW DEADWARDIANS is brought to vivid life by fan-favorite writer Dan Abnett (RESURRECTION MAN, LEGION LOST) with art by newcomer I. N. J. Culbard (At The Mountains of Madness).

But then…a lonely road and a nightmarish encounter have left her with terrible, half-glimpsed memories. And now she has to become President. To expose the truth – and maybe, to save the world.

Arcadia’s quest is at the heart of this new monthly series from writer Paul Cornell (DEMON KNIGHTS, ACTION COMICS, Doctor Who) and artist Ryan Kelly (NEW YORK FIVE, NORTHLANDERS). With the help of her quirky staff, Arcadia will pursue the truth of her abduction into danger, mystery and awe. It leads him to meme theory, as he wonders if there could be a cold science behind the conversion of people into suicide bombers. And ultimately, it brings him to Ahmed, a Gitmo prisoner who promises the answers to all of Aaron’s questions, and in the process, he’ll take Aaron from Guantanamo Bay to the jihadist camps in Pakistan, back to Ground Zero in New York City. But where do Ahmed’s real loyalties lie? From where did that loyalty spring? To answer that, Aaron will have to reexamine everything he believes and stare down one of the most compelling questions of the 21st century.

DESIGNED BY SAM KIETH

SCULPTED BY JONATHAN MATTHEWS

From the brilliantly twisted mind of legendary illustrator Sam Kieth comes the latest incarnation in the “Batman: Black and White” line of figures.

Based on designs by Kieth himself, this unique figure measures 5.5” high x 6” wide x 5” deep and matches the previous figures in this series with its moody, monochromatic color scheme.

  • Let the flood of DCnU HCs begin! At $22.99 a pop!!

Hooray for Showcase Presents: All Star Squadron Vol 1!! Roy Thomas' DC works need some love! Maybe Secret Origins will be next?

Not sure about Superman/Fortress of Solitude. I have the tabloid original. Roy integrates a lot of Fortress stories and facts but made one glaring mistake in characterization and motive!

Saga of the Swamp Thing should be required reading for anyone who loves literature.

I never got any of the Green Lantern Archives and I love GL. I do have the SPs, though. But that's the only major Silver Age series that I don't have Archived. I never really was overly impressed with the reprints that I did read as opposed to the Flash, Hawkman, the Atom and even Aquaman. Can't explain it.

All-New Batman: the Brave & the Bold cancelled. Not surprised but sad! We still need the Hammers of Justice!

  • I've been reading some All-Star Squadron recently, in anticipation of their appearance in theJLA/JSA crossover thread, and I'd heartily reccomend the Showcase here.  They are something unique and you get a lot of bang for your buck in this collection.

I'll say a bit more on the thread itself.

  • Since we're talking about Vertigo comics in the other DC solicitations thread, I'm bumping this one up to make the art more accessible.

  • I'm glad DC is finally reprinting All-Star Squadron, as well. I loved that series... and hope something similar will be revived on Earth-2!

  • Okay, three things for my list. I am looking forward to the Fortress of Solitude collection as well as Showcase Presents: All-Star Squadron and the second volume of Secret Society of Super-Villains. However I do have a few reservations about the last two.

They don't mention the issues of Justice League of America (#207-209 I believe) that crossed over into A-SS. I am going to work on the assumption that they ARE included otherwise we only get 2/5 of that story. I am even more concerned about the SSOSV book. When the first came out, the solicitation gave the impression, hell, it stated outright, that the full series would be in the one volume which turned out not to be the case and when it did come out, the blurb on the back cover stated the book would contain the DC Special #27 (Captain Comet/Tommy Tomorrow vs. Chronos and dinosaurs) which is supposed to be in this volume. If it does come out as promised, I am looking forward to seeing the Cancelled Comics bit as the version I have has VERY light pencil work and that is it.

Sorry if it comes off a bit like being a jerk, I'm just saying is all.

  • Hey, we all want reprints to be as true to the source as possible. It annoys me when the Gold Key reprints don't contain the filler material. I didn't read it at the time, but now it's HISTORY!

  • I just flipped up to see the solicitation for

1801099163?profile=RESIZE_180x180BATMAN BLACK AND WHITE BY SAM KIETH STATUE

and I've just got to say while I appreciate artistic license and vision,

I'm not sure that it's physically possible for a man to have his head growing out of the

front of his chest.  Even Batman.

(But I admit hearing this same complaint about The Dark Knight Returns, and still

loving it.  Am I two-faced on this?)

  • I'm curious to read Batman: Venom. I never did read that story arc. Does anyone have any recommending/naysaying about it?
