Defenders line .

This can be a line for all comic book-y things - and related - involving the phrase " The Defenders " .

Most of all , I'm sure , there would be Marvel's Non-Team here , and their Bronze-into-the-um , it lasted through 1986 , didn't it , which was sort of the last full year of the Bronze Age , so maybe I'm onto something here !!!!!!!!!

Since then , Marvel has done serveral other short-run " Defenders " series .

There was also a Marvel-Star title , DEFENDERS OF THE EARTH , based upon the 80s animated series featuring King Features Syndicate adventure strip characters interacting . Stan Lee himself scipted the first ish iof this , IIRC !

In the early 1960s a TV series starring E. G. Marshall and Robert Reed as fathe-son lawyers , titled - yes , " The Defenders " - had a good run , but , according to IMDB , has never been syndicated , although one posted did recall seeing it recently , so...

  • ...Right now , on CBS ( as was the Marshall/Reed one ) , there is a series starring Jim Belushi as one of two Las Vegas lawyers , the series is..........." The Defenders " :-0 ! I am told that it is " on the bubble "/unlikely to be renewed for next season .

Per IMDB , despite the similarities on top , it is not considered to be a revamp/remake of the Marshall/Reed one ( Which also had Ossie Davis in a supporting role . ) , not even in a " in name only " sense .

The 60s CBS series had two comic-book issues released ! :-0 In Dell's FOUR-COLOR series , both had photo covers , too , so SNAP 'EM UP!!!!!!! , collectors.........Mile High , BTW , does not appear to file the Four-Color releases under that nae...And there were only , what , 1200 or so of them !!!!!!!!!

Marvel has revisited the " Defenders " concept a number of times since .

In the " boom " early 90s , THE SECRET DEFENDERS was started out as being scripted by Roy Thomas...whom , IIRC , has gone on record as saying that the first issue was the biggest-selling comic that he wrote !

Uuuh , from what I gandered of the cover , mebbe the comic was rather in the - well , Boom Nineties " :-O ! - vein tht , untill recently , had many fans going " Oh , God , not the Nineties !!!!! " . Will nostalgia for the NineNine Decade , now that Best Buy has , in last Sunday's paper , tried to advertise DVDs of Nineties TV series ( Boy Meets World , Beavis And Butthead ) with a 90s nostalgia tagine , ever catch on in th' comicks ?

  • ...I guess some of you 80s Toy Generation kidz might remember Defenders Of The Earth more than me .

It appears that the 4-part Star miniseries?? was all the comic-bookage there was of DOTE m as seemed to be the case of a lot of 80sTGs who weren't G.I. Joe or the Transfoormers...But was there some more , overseas-only DOTE in comics ?????

I do seem to recall that the DOTE mini was issued as a book , possibly even as a hardcover...but only outside of America ?

  • ...The Secret Defenders #1 sells , now , at Mile High for slightly less than its original cover NM !

The Defenders Of The Earth character Mandrake the Magician had a three-issue mini-series issues by Marvel Select , at a $2.95 ( fairly decent back in 199-5?? for a 32-pager?? ) price - of which #3 was never issued .

      Sheesh .

Does anyone at KFS have the third part ?

I remember , very well , reading MARVEL FEATURE #1's introduction of the Defenders , at 11 or so:-) .

I was unaware that Dr. Strange had " de-Stranged " himself in the ensuing years between the discontinuation of his late-60s title and then .

      It got to me .
