1)Of course, the joke of this episode is that the actress playing the Doctor's "daughter" is the real-life daughter of the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison, Georgia Moffett. The idea of a "progenation" machine is an interesting one, the thought of having an instant "adult offspring" is an intriguing one, and I enjoyed the scenes between Moffett and Tennant as the Doctor grappled with the idea of having a family again, and the scenes between Tennant and Tate as she observed his reactions.

2)What's also interesting is that this story seem to provide evidence that there's a difference between a Gallifreyan and a Time Lord. My personal theory is that the binary vascular system and a certain regenerative capability are inherent in "natural" Gallifreyans, and that the full "regeneration" ability and time-sensitivity are part of whatever it was that distinguishes a "Time Lord" from a "mere" Gallifreyan.

3)I liked that there was no conflict between Martha and Donna - it would've been nice to see more interaction between them, however.  That said, I particularly enjoyed the story of Martha and her doomed Hath friend.  Poor Martha - shanghiaed on a new adventure, just so she can make a new friend and then watch them die!

4)I also liked that it was Donna who figured out what the numbers meant.  This does seem to be an early example of something we will see more fully under the Moffat regime , that traveling in the TARDIS these days does seem to make you smarter.

5)I liked the guy who played Cobb, he did a good fanatical whacko, there.

6)Some fun quotes:

  • "Hello, Dad."
  • "If you really wanted peace, couldn't you just stop fighting?"
  • "So the Source could be a weapon, and we've just given directions to Captain Nutjob?"
  • "I have picked up a few womanly wiles over the years."  I like how this thought seems to horrify the Doctor.
  • "Seriously, there's an outrageous amount of running involved."
  • "I mean, we're not even the same species. There's probably laws against it."

Overall:

Another good episode in a string of good stories.  I wouldn't mind seeing Jenny again sometime, but even if they never bring her back, it's fun to imagine her running around out there somewhere.  Be funny if the Doctor landed somewhere and found that she had already been there and saved the planet from whatever menace had threatened it.

  • And I remember that Moffat convinced RTD to not kill Jenny at the end of the episode...just in case.  Oh, and in the real world, Tennant and Moffett are married and have a daughter, Olive.  She has a Doctor as a father AND a grandfather and the Doctor's daughter (fake and real world) as a mother...

  • I'd actually like to see a Jenny series for younger kids, like Sarah Jane Adventures.

  • Jenny is one "loose thread" of continuity that I would love to see again, especially with Moffat now as both a writer and the show's executive producer, along with the fact that the 50th anniversary of the series is fast approaching!

What would be a great story is Jenny meeting A)New dad (11) & B) both meeting up with Carol Ann Ford as Susan because it would firstly bring the story full circle by having The Doctor's daughter AND granddaughter so you have a great family story and secondly it would tie the original story that much more to the fiftieth anniversary. Instead of 'School Reunion' this could be 'FAMILY Reunion'

  • I re-watched this one over the weekend in anticipation of the new series of Jenny: The Doctor's Daughter audio adventures for Big Finish. (I have already received it but i want to finish up with the Eighth Doctor and Charley first.) Now that there's a female Doctor (or soon will be), I'd like to see Jenny again on TV. I don't see that happening any time soon, but what about Jenny meeting Susan on audio? River Song?
