1)Not one of my favorite episodes, for some reason.  It's not bad, it just doesn't overwhelm me, for some reason. For one thing, I didn't like the monster design.  Not that it's goofy - it's no Myrka, or anything - I just don't like it.

2)I never warmed to Martha's family, much.  Not the actors' fault, I feel as though they were never developed well, so that by and large they were just a bunch of faceless extras.  We also got the beginning of the whole "Harold Saxon is poisoning Francine against the Doctor" storyline which I found tedious for some reason. That's vague, I know, but that's how it is with me - sometimes I just don't like something, without being able to specify exactly why.

3)We finally got an end to the "Just one more trip" business, which bored me because we knew he wasn't going just dump her at home.

4)Some fun quotes:

  • "And that's two impossible things we've seen so far tonight? Don't you love it when that happens?"
  • "It really shouldn't take that long to reverse the polarity.  I must be out of practice."
  • "Always their mothers - every time."  Orphans, Doctor! I'm telling you - orphans!
  • "I'm old enough to know that a longer life isn't necessarily a better one."
  • "Need to turn this up to eleven."

Overall:  Another so-so horror romp. It's astonishing how many critters in sci-fi land that can be beaten by loud noises.
