I'm not really looking for more books to read, but there are a few I have yet to try and I was wondering if anyone here read any of these...

Umbral

Manhattan Projects

Nailbiter

Adventure Time

Sex

Manifest Destiny

  • I haven't read the original comics or the trade yet, but based upon what I've heard I picked up the first trade of Manifest Destiny. Trying to get to it.

  • I've been enjoying Manhattan Projects in trade form, in fact you'll find my reviews of the first three over in Reviews. The library has the first Manifest Destiny trade. It's on my to-read list, but I haven't read it yet.

  • Admittedly, I've read the first trade of Manifest Destiny and several of Adventure Time. I'm just wanting to stir up some discussion based on recent comics around here...

I may have to start a whole separate thread on Adventure Time comics....

  • I've been reading Manifest Destiny -- though I think I'm an issue behind at this point. But I really dig it.

  • I've been reading Nailbiter, and I've been enjoying that. I read Manhattan Projects, but it just didn't do it for me.

  • Yeah, I think I'm going to try the first trade of Nailbiter when it comes out. I'm sure it will be ten bucks. I love how Image does that.

  • I have the first trades of several of those titles, and I want to get to them, but there's only so many hours in a day, you know?

  • I haven't really read it, but I've seen a number of scans from Sex. It's much ado about nothing.  If you like reading about unlikeable characters navel gazing, you might like it.

  • I'm reading Sex. It's a Howard Chaykin-esque take on superheroes. The lead character is a billionaire philanthropist who is a costumed superhero on the side who doesn't want to do the superhero stuff any more but doesn't know what he does want. So he kind of meanders through life as the people around him indulge in sordid, nasty stuff. There's a Catwoman analogue who is a madam, a would-be Robin who is a street kid going through initiation into a Yakuza-like gang. There's an Alfred, of course, although he's not so old, and he has his own kinky secrets.

The whole thing is a step up from fan fiction, I suppose ...

  • I just picked up Image's Copperhead, a sci-fi western. The art looked good, and Jay Faerber's a writer with a lot of solid experience.
