ECO COMICS CELEBRATES REFERENDUM BY REVEALING SUPER HERO, THE SCOTSMAN

In anticipation of Scotland's historic independence referendum today which will decide if Scotland becomes an independent country, publisher Eco Comics has unveiled new super hero character, Scotsman.

Art showing Scotsman is available now on the award-winning publisher's official blog: blog.mohawkmedia.co.uk and shows the hero in action with his trademark weapon, Thistle Missiles.

The publisher has yet to reveal whether the Scottish hero will star in his own comic book or appear in its recently launched series, Englishman.

Whether Scotsman will be an ally or enemy of Englishman has also yet to be determined.

The publisher says: "Is Scotsman on the Yes or No side of the referendum? No to independence will certainly make him an ally of Englishman, but will Yes result in him being ally or enemy?"

The blog will also offer glimpses into Scotsman's costume design, powers, and friends on foes.

"We don't want to let the wildcat out of the bag, but it is clear that this hero truly embodies Scotland. Even his supporting cast will include world-famous Scottish legends, many appearing in comic book form for the first time.

"Whatever the outcome of the referendum, Scotsman will certainly be taken to heart by the public he protects, as the Scottish are clearly proud of their country and heritage.

"Poor Englishman on the other hand has to face 'England' being branded a dirty word and even his Prime Minister labelling Britain a 'country'. Maybe this new Scottish super hero represents a lesson to be learnt during this historic juncture."

  • Your title says "EC Comics."

  • Yes. I thought "The Scotsman" was something like The Vault Keeper, and was disappointed to say the least.

  • ...What you said ~ laddies !!!!!!!!!:-)

  • I fixed the thread title.

  • Thanks, Tim.

And I'm glad we've all gotten the jollies out of our system about my typo in the thread title. I think we should all be a little more worried, as I am, that so many of my art links this week have gone mysteriously broken, as in the story above. I've replaced the links four times, and re-created the art two more times, on my manga Lit Classics column, and those have consistently disappeared all week. Tonight I went to a different source for the art, re-created it as JPGs, and replaced everything, everywhere ... again. I hope it sticks this time.

As for the art above, I'm not inclined to chase it down and re-create it six times. I've got other things to do. If you guys are interested, you know how to use Google as well as I do.

  • I can see the art above. Has it vanished for you? I use Internet Explorer.

  • Hrm. OK, that's weird. I can see it too in Explorer and Chrome. But in Firefox it shows up as a broken link.

Thanks, Luke, for putting your finger on the problem.

  • I can see the art here in both Mozilla SeaMonkey and Flashpeak Slimbrowser.

  • Those of you who can see it may be looking at your browser's cache. I clear my internet cache and cookies when I close my browser.

  • Looking at their website, I was tickled by the following observation:

"Eco Comics believe Englishman to be the first English comic book hero to receive his own series. It seems that characters such as Captain Britain cannot be classed as patriotic: there is, of course, no such country as ‘Britain’."

"Britain" or "Great Britain" is the name of the island which consists of England, Scotland and Wales. In the same spirit as the Scots, I favor the English flag over the UK flag.
