  • Man, I do not like the art style used on "Flash Gordon." I was so excited to see a new Flash Gordon book on the stands and then ... well, the art is just not right. Al Williamson has certainly spoiled us!

Can anyone tell me if the story is any good?

Flash's rival, "Buck Rogers" looked wonderful over at Dynamite, but after a few issues the story just fizzled. I tried sampling a few more later in the series, but it never picked up the brash attitude that Buck is known for.

  • The first six issue arc, THE MERCY WARS, was very well-received, as was the anthology, THE SECRET HISTORY OF MONGO.  The current arc, INVASION OF THE RED SWORD, is also garnering critical praise.  If you don't like the art, there's not much I can do but people seem to be digging the story!

  • Hey, Brendan,

Thank you for responding! Just to point out: I said I didn't think the art worked for the book, not that the art was bad or artist was doing a bad job. (I want to make that clear!)

Anyway, would it be possible for you to post a few preview pages? Or even some character sketches?

I only glanced through it, but I am certainly willing to give it a shot if the story is earning some good reviews.  I will be happy to be proven wrong when a good Flash Gordon story is on the line!

  • Thanks. That's definitely some excellent dialogue! You just may have convinced me, sir!
  • Thank you!  If you have any trouble finding issues, let me know.  Brendan.Deneen@GMail.com

  • Once again, Brendan, let me express my appreciation for your "retail politics." It's refreshing to see a pro dealing with fans directly.

As for the art, does anyone besides me see a Jerry Grandenetti influence at work in Red Sword?

  • We're a small company, so every fan counts.  Also, I grew up devouring comics, so I'm a fan, too!
  • The designs, to me, look a lot like "Masters of the Universe" characters, and that's not a bad thing at all.

Over at your website, Casper looks really promising!  Unfortunately, the "Download a Sample" link takes me to a website landing page, not the PDF.

  • A "Caper 3 pack" is hitting stores within the next couple of weeks (all 3 issues for only $5!).
