I can only echo your tag.

noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Aw, hell.
yeah...we are discussing it right now...I saw Felicia Day's tweet about it, and tracked down the news. but yeah my reaction is the same. I can't say that everyone is happy here, and it being free was huge part of why we came, so grrrrr.

Any ideas will be welcomed.
The moderating team is aware of this and we're discussing what to do. We'll make an official announcement after (of course) we make an official decision.
Ouch. Is there any information on what Ning will start charging, and if it is comparable to what the other site was charging? I don't need to know the specifics, just whether we know what the fees might be and if we do or don't like them.
Any idea how long until the free sites are shut down? I want to know if I should start saving threads.
I'd start saving. Ning says they'll make some announcements in about two weeks.
yikes

This is BY NO MEANS official, but we're blowing some of the cobwebs off the Friends of Captain Comics group on Facebook to see what that's capable of.

I'm DEFINITELY NOT encouraging people to start packing up and moving over there or launching any significant discussions or anything, but if you want to poke in on it and let us know your opinion, it couldn't hurt. :)

Did they plan this do you think? Lure people in with free offers and then start charging?
Mark

Nah. Looks like it was more a management change / money-saving move. It looks like they also did a fair chunk of layoffs...
