  • Happy Birthday, Mister Silver Age! May you find a time platform/time bubble/time pool/cosmic treadmill so every day is  the Silver Age! (Pick up a few early Spideys and Flashs for me please!)
  • Thanks, Philip! That's become one of my favorite SA covers, as it's a far more deadly death trap than I realized at the time.

I always think that when I see a time-travel story: "Before you go save the world or whatever you need to do, stop by the drugstore and pick up some comics!" But they never do, the fools. At least run past the store so I can see the spinner rack!

Around here, considering the comics I read most of the time and have laying around as I write my column, every day IS the Silver Age. I just put away six months' worth of issues from my column, and that was a pretty good wallowing in all kinds of kooky stuff!

  • Happy Birthday!
  • Happy birthday from  me as well!
  • Happy birthday. We're glad you've joined our group.
  • Mr. Age and I have been pals for close to two decades now, and it's become something of a tradition, as well as a challenge, to come up with the perfect comic book gift for the guy who has, if not every comic, at least many of the coolest ones. But I know for a fact that Mr. Age doesn't have mint (or at least 9.8) condition editions of the first issues of the three most popular superheroes ever: Superman, Batman and Spider-Man.

Now, unfortunately, I've been traveling the past week or so, so I was unable to personally procure the comics for my pal this time, so I sent out my administrative assistant with the unambiguous directive: "Buy the first issues of Superman, Batman and Spider-Man, in the best possible condition you can find them in, and pay very close attention to me when I tell you this: MONEY IS NO OBJECT. These are gifts for my pal, Mr. Age. You just make sure that they're all pristine, first-issue collector's items."

Well, here there are in all their virtual glory (did I mention that part of the tradition is that Mr. Age doesn't actually get the actual physical comics books, but rather, being the hip and happening guy he is, the digital edition instead of the front covers?). Something tells me, I might be interviewing for a new administrative assistant, and very soon.

  • Boy see what you miss when you don't pay attention?! A Happy, if belated, Birthday greeting to our Mr. Age!

  • Thanks for the belated wishes, guys. Dave, your assistant did a bang-up job, considering I own the first two and I probably should own the third, as it looks like a good issue. I'm not sure how it got past me.

That Action Comics issue is one I think of a lot these days, along with the TTA cover and these other two Action covers:

Little did I know when I bought all these that they were much more horrifying than I thought at the time. I do like that Supes seems to end up with a cane, even though he can fly. I've been pricing some models myself, so I'll have something to shake at kids when they venture onto my lawn.

  • Craig:

Sorry I haven't been around this website as much as I would like within the last couple of weeks, but I have a writing deadline looming.

Yet I would be remiss in my duties as both a comic book fan and a friend if I did not stop and wish you a happy birthday.

    "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

Now I've got to get back to work. Sorry I can't join the party right now, but remember: You're as young as you feel!

  • Thanks, Lee! I hope you turn the corner and get to come back here soon.

I actually own that comic, too, so I can have an actual celebration in addition to this virtual one with these comics. I think I'll forgo all those Super-fogey ones for now, though, as they're striking too close to home.
