The death of former child actor Jackie Cooper ( not to be confused with the , somewhat less fortunate as an adult and , infamously , ripped off by his parents Jackie Coogan ) inspires me to start a " Celebrity Deaths - That , Um , Don't Have The Most Obvious Connectuions To Our Beloved Genre , As Those Folks Will Tend To Get A Solo Thread , Admittedly..." omnibus thread .

Directly , Cooper played Perry White in the Salkind/Reeve series of Superman movies , and , as per Wikipedia , about the last thing he did in the directing of episodic TV series that occupied much of his later working years were episodes of the Salkind Superboy series...

Cooper also starred in the CBS series Hennessy ( Probably the subject of a couple Dell FOUR COLOR COMICS issues anyway , wasn't it ????????? ) , enthused over by our Cmdr. Benson , and another B&W-era series , The People's Choice .

In pre-TV days movies with ____ ____ made them something of a team

This really doesn't have anything to do with Jackie Cooper, but Bob Gibson died yesterday at 84.

Lou Brock died on September 6 at 81.

I'm not not of a baseball fan anymore, but I was when I was a kid. At the height of my fandom, the St. Louis Cardinals were at the depth of their... I don't even know what the proper sports term is. "Skill"? But even though the Cardinals sucked (at the time), they had two of the greatest players the game has ever seen.

I notice that this "line" is posted to the "Movies and TV'" forum, but if sports stars can be considered "celebrities," then Bob Gibson and Lou Brock definitely count.

"I don't even know what the proper sports term is. 'Skill'?"

Game.

It would be helpful if a moderator changed this thread title to (suggestion) "Celebrity Deaths."

Shocking enough that Eddie Van Halen died today, but also Johnny Nash. From CNN: "'I Can See Clearly Now' Singer Johnny Nash Dies at 80"

Here he is on The Midnight Special:

Johnny Nash also did this ditty for The Mighty Hercules animated series, which Commander Benson wrote about over here: "Deck Log Entry # 162 Hero of Song and Story":

The Amazing Randi has died. Penn Jillette reported it in a tweet.

Oh, no. He was a joy. Loved to hear him interviewed on Penn's show.

Dang!

He wasn't a celebrity, but we've seen the work of Sandy Dvore countless times. He created the titles for such shows as The Partridge FamilyThe Waltons, Police Story, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, and more. He also created the logos for The Young and The Restless, United Artists. He even created the logo for Solo cups and made them red!
