That relationship was apparently only "Bucky-dead" (which now means the opposite of what it used to).

It was. There are a lot of fans who aren't happy with this development, but I'm also sure there are many who are. Personally, I'm ambivalent. My guess is that no matter what happens ti will be reversed within five years, so it doesn't matter.

Moving on from one's teenage crush is a perfectly cromulent development.

This seems like one giant step backward to me.
