We have a good discussion on this board of DC Finest collections (updated and maintained by Rob Staeger), but not one for the similar Marvel Epic Collections. The line began in 2013, so it's past time we had one (although I'm not going to commit to putting the amount of effort into this thread that Rob puts into his). This one is for whichever one anyone here would care to discuss, be it a newly released volume, an upoming one, or an old favorite. Right now I'm reading Enter... Doctor Doom, a collection of the Latverian dictator's appearances from 1962 through 1969 in chronological order. This material was previously released in "omnibus" format, but I didn't think it warrented that kind of high-end treatment. and that's the way it should be: release the hardcover first, the cheaper tpb later. Collections such as this are good opportunities to trace the development of a character over time. Ah, The Kids These Days™ don't know how good they've got it. Back in my day, I had to chase down early appearances as backissues!

I've read the whole thing now, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. The style of wiriting, and the pace of the art, reflects the time they were made, but the quality of what they're doing is top-notch. The bulk of the book concerns Typhod Mary, hired by Kingpin to break Daredevil and Matt Murdock, which she does by seducing Matt away fro Karen in her Mary persona, but also fighting him -- and then hiring a bunch of lesser villains to fight him, a la Bane -- to break his body. It takes Matt a while to get back on his feet after that, and NYC (and I guess the world?) was inundated by demons during the Inferno crossover. At one point Matt even makes out with Mephisto! There are a few issues that almost seem abstract, rather than regular superhero comics.
And then there's a final handful of comics with Matt roaming the tri-state area trying to get his head together, and writing wrongs in the countryside and the suburbs for a bit.
I really liked it! I'll keep my eye out for the next book, though I see it fetches big bucks on ebay.
I've been meaning to post something to this thread for a while now but I just can't gin up the interest. My original intent had been to post all of the new solicitations as they are made, but I posted that list of upcomiing releases (through March 2027) back on July 15, and few of them are all that interesting. I've even decided not to buy that X-Factor volume I was considering on August 1 because the DC Finest solicitations are so much more interesting. Then I thought: why are Marvel's offering so bland in comparison to DC's? One reason is that Marvel has been publishing this format a lot longer than DC has, and all of the best choices have already been published. But what's left that Marvel has not already reprinted? Here are a few suggestions...
Waht esle? Anything from the '70s? '80s? '90s? 2Ks?
