  • If they're talking about single issues, I think I would have a hard time. Most of my faves are multi-issue stories or extended runs. (Dark Phoenix, Count Nefaria Trilogy, Miller Daredevil, Winter Soldier, Squadron Supreme.)
  • Because the origin stories/first issues have been reprinted so often, my first inclination is to go for lesser known stories that best represent the look and feel of Marvel. With the FF for example - an early dust up with Namor or the Dr Doom steals the Silver Surfer's cosmic powers story.

  • ...I don't know whether to plump for an Internet campaign for a PETER THE LITTLE PEST/PETEY story , Steve Englehart's " Pterror Of The Pterradactyl " or the MARVEL TEAM-UP " Herc pulls Manhattan Island back into place " one !!!!!!!!!!!

      Or , Byrne's's CHAPTER ONE:-)...

The last ish o' Malibu's THE PROTECTORS !

The entirety of 1970's SPOOF #1 ! The never-published SPOOF #2 ! The issue of the second SPOOF with the " David Cassidy inaugurated Prexy " cover !!!!!!!!!

I suppose STREET POET RAY is ruled out ?

      YUPPIES FROM HELL ?

  • I just hope they wind up with something besides all super-hero stories from the past 20 years--poor Patsy Walker was the biggest star Marvel had for over a decade, and yet she gets no respect when it comes to these sort of things.

  • They could reprint an issue of Marvel Divas, which starred Firestar, Patsy "Hellcat" Walker, Black Cat and Monica "Captain Marvel/Photon/Pulsar/Spectrum" Rambeau, mostly in civvies. That would get Patsy in, even though it's superhero drag!

  • I've always been partial to the issue of Iron Man where Stark -- who has been framed for killing an ambassador by Justin Hammer -- goes after Hammer in his stronghold. Said stronghold is guarded by an army of third- and fourth-string villains like The Melter, Icicle, Whiplash, and so forth, and Iron Man mows through them like wheat.

  • I loved that scene, too, CK -- it was a great tonic for all those awful stories where a grade-Z villain keeps an A-list hero busy for 32 pages. Rocket Racer vs. Spider-Man? Mr. Hyde vs. Thor? Anybody vs. Green Lantern or Superman? Those fights shouldn't last two pages. And, really, should The Flash have trouble with ANY of the Rogues? Captain Cold should be disarmed before he had time to blink! I realize writers must write stories where the hero is in peril, but they shouldn't dumb down/power down the hero to where the likes of Whiplash is a legitimate threat.

  • The death of  the Executioner from Thor #362.

    Ace I and II

    The City Stealers

Any Howard the Duck story not written by Steve Gerber

    ROM

    Micronauts

    Dazzler #1

    Teen Tony

Any Captain America story drawn by Rob Liefeld

    Anything drawn by Rob Liefeld

    "His claws. Advantageous!"

  • ...My list , in fact , COMBINES often-pointed to " bad " ones with personal , if non-mainstream , faves ~ Or at least interests . ~ of mine .

Oh , and how about that issue of DOCTOR STRANGE that used a swipe of an Amy Grant LP cover pose that got Marvel sued by Amy (  recall noting it the very first time I saw it on my LCS's rack ! No great AG fan , either ` maybe had never bought any recordings by her .) !!!!!!!!!!! And that issue WOLVERINE?? that had a lettersd reference to a villain as " the killer called..." that received the " That's why we don't letter ' flick ' , " award by being taken as an anti-Jewish slur !!!!!!!!!!! Oh , and that one that got an artist fired from Marvel (and then allowed to come back as a paid-less freelancer) by putting a diss at Marvel's head editor , IIRC !!!!!!!!!!!

(Moderator John Dunbar here.  This post has been edited by me, to remove some unnecessary profanity, and also to remove the names of three artists in the last sentence.  I know what Emerkeith is referring to, and he named the wrong person as having snuck an insult at a former Marvel Editor-in-chief into the background of a panel.  Two other artists were named as engaging in similar behavior.)
