THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS AS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE DISCOVERS WHO HOLDS INFINITY!

…and its discovery heralds the end of the Guardians of the Galaxy!

New York, NY—December 13, 2017—With a CRASH and a BANG, the cosmic strike of the Countdown begins as the greatest epic in the history of the Infinity Stones explodes onto the pages of INFINITY COUNTDOWN! And it’s a beginning so huge, it can only be told in one sweeping, mind-bending tale.

This March, Gerry Duggan (All-New Guardians of the Galaxy) and Aaron Kuder (All-New Guardians of the Galaxy) are bringing you a spectacular, huge Infinity tale that will lead to an even greater story – and one that will impact the entire Marvel Universe! The Infinity Stones, thought to be lost forever, have suddenly reappeared -- bringing with them the ultimate power for good and evil. Three stones have fallen into the hands of the mightiest heroes in the galaxy…but where are the rest?

As the hunt for the stones begins, a new weapon of unimaginable power is being forged…and it’s a weapon like nothing the universe has ever seen! What is its purpose? And who – or what – is the destructive force that will be unleashed on the world? The race for power in the post Secret Wars universe has begun, and its search will impact every Marvel character from the street to the cosmos, from the Avengers to Spider-Man to the X-Men, even bringing about the end of the Guardians of the Galaxy!

“As we worked on the Infinity Stones’ story, it became clear the story was much bigger than we could contain in the Guardians of the Galaxy series,” said editor Jordan D. White. “It starts with the Guardians, but the story extends out into the entire Marvel Universe, with stones popping up in some VERY surprising places. Countdown is the next step in the story…but as the name implies, it’s leading to something even greater.”

First, this February, prepare for the upcoming epic with INFINITY COUNTDOWN PRIME #1 written by Duggan with art by Mike Deodato, an action-filled 48-page epic that reveals the location of all six stones as the countdown begins…plus, a prose primer that details the saga of the Infinity Stones, and how they came to be in the Marvel Universe!

Then, in March, dive into all the action with INFINITY COUNTDOWN #1, where Duggan and Kuder bring Marvel’s heroes together in a battle for power, leading our heroes down a dark path towards the world’s possible inevitable end! And this is only the start of a story that will grow bigger – get ready as this five part epic sets the stage for an earth-shattering tale that will change the Marvel Universe forever.

And be prepared for the Guardians of the Galaxy to disassemble!

Don’t miss the battle – and the story – that will change the balance of cosmic power! The Countdown for the ultimate weapon begins this February…but where it ENDS, only time will tell…

  • What a coincidence! There's a Marvel movie about the Infinity Gems out this summer, too!

Looks like the gem holders are Thing, Captain Marvel, original Wolverine, Drax, Gambit and ... Deadpool?

  • I'm kind of weary of these "cosmic" events. If Marvel or DC came to me and told me I could write a comic about anything I wanted, it would be a two-parter, and the first part would be about how a group of villains tried to steal something really expensive, and a bunch of heroes would show up and try to stop them, and the villains would get the better of the heroes, and it would end with things looking pretty bad for the heroes.

The second part would be the heroes escaping from whatever predicament they were in, and then catching up with the villains and beating them

  • I've noticed Marvel referring to the Infinity Gems as "Infinity Stones" in recent solicitations. (I can remewmber when they all used to be referred to collectively as "Soul Gems.") Jim Starlin and Alan Davis have a new hardcover "cosmic" OGN trilogy comicg soon. That's the one I'll be reading.

  • To me, Infinity Stones always sounds like a dirty joke waiting to happen. The editor in me, I suppose, anxious about the unintended double entendre.

  • Sounds like something Adam Warlock needs to pass.

  • Heroes with the Infinity Gems were already done in Warlock and the Infinity Watch which had Gamora and Drax (in his "Stupid Hulk" phase) as members.

  • Looking at the second image above, these look more like stones than gems.

Maybe this is a new set (in need of "romancing") we havenb't seen before...?

  • So is the blue guy in the first cover the latest incarnation of Adam Warlock? Or what?

  • I'd buy that for a dollar.

  • In part one, before the heroes team up, they have to fight.
