I suspect there won't be a lot of call for this thread. That it can even exist boggles the mind. But my favorite TV critic, Alan Sepinwall, just dropped a Mopee reference into a review of tonight's Community.

Just when I thought I'd seen everything...

  • Hey, if "the Bizarro world" has gone mainstream -- it's been referenced in Saturday Night Live and Seinfeld, to the point where many people don't realize and never knew it came from Superman comics -- why not Mopee?

  • A Mopee reference, even explained, is pretty obscure, even for a guy blogging about Community.

As to Bizarros, I think that reference on Seinfeld introduced it to way more people than knew it any other way before that. With Seinfeld being such a big Superman fan, it's not hard to figure where it came from. It also showed up in the Smallville series, so it's had pretty wide exposure beyond comic book readers by now. Mopees got some catching up to do, but I'm confident he can make it happen.

The mere concept of a Mopee in the Media thread is impressive!

  • Well, Sepinwall is pretty well known for being a comic geek, and has dropped numerous comic references in his columns over the years.

When Arrow launched last year, I got a huge kick out of his podcast when he started explaining Green Arrow's history to co-host Dan Fienberg and began delving into some pretty obscure minutiae.  I especially enjoyed his attempts to explain the differences between the various versions of the Huntress.

  • Alan was a long time excellent contributor to rec.arts.comics on Usenet (which is where he got his start doing television reviews which led to his initial employment as a tv critic). I'd certainly be willing to have him on a fan trivia team.
