ROBERT VENDITTI TO GIVE HAWKMAN WINGS IN JUNE

Celebrated Writer Joins Forces with Fan-Favorite Artist Bryan Hitch for All-New Ongoing Series Featuring the DC Universe’s Winged Wonder

This June, Robert Venditti (THE FLASH, GREEN LANTERN, HAL JORDAN AND THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS) continues his exclusive agreement with DC by writing a new HAWKMAN ongoing series with artist Bryan Hitch (THE AUTHORITY, JUSTICE LEAGUE).

“Hawkman is one of the richest, most storied characters in comic book history, a cornerstone of the DC Universe,” says Venditti. “His adventures have taken him from ancient history to the far-flung cosmos, and everywhere in between. It’s been too long since he had a series of his own, and I’m excited to bring him back to the DC Universe.”

Spinning out of the events of DARK NIGHTS: METAL and HAWKMAN: FOUND, Carter Hall resumes his role as an explorer of the DC Universe’s ancient and unknown. As Hawkman, Hall is on a quest to find out the true nature of his many incarnations throughout time, but he quickly finds out that elements from those past lives want to keep that secret hidden at any cost.

“Hawkman has one of the most amazing visuals in comics,” explained Hitch. “He’s the greatest warrior in all of the DCU, and with such a robust history to (literally) draw on, the sky’s the limit for how far we can take this.”

HAWKMAN #1 arrives in stores and will be available for digital download on June 13. For the latest information on HAWKMAN and all other DC news, check out the website at www.dccomics.com or the DC YouTube channel.

  • So who was the Hawkman killed in outer space in the aptly named Death of Hawkman? I mean, I know it was Katar Hol, but I'm fuzzy on why there were two Hawkmen and one of them had Nth metal in them.

  • Here's a thought--Hakwman is boring, but Hawkgirl/Hawkwoman is awesome. Why not do a book featuring her as the lead? To my knowledge, they've only tried it once.

  • If Family Feud surveyed its studio audience for What DC Comics Heroes Just Don't Connect With You, Hawkman would be the number one answer.

  • I dunno. Dingbats of Danger Street didn't do much for me. photo tongue.gif

  • I'm always down for Dingbattery.

  • Barbarian. Eternal Lover. Constant Loser. Just Waiting to Die...Again and Again. Hoarder of Bad Things.

Why was the Super-Scientific Lawman from Another World Who Really, Really Likes Ancient Earth Weapons not a good idea anymore?

  • For one thing, he hasn't had a decent helmet since the Silver Age.

  • Hawkwoman wasn't any more or less interesting than Hawkman was in the 70s and 80s. Her animated version was but we never saw that in the comics. The 00s Hawkgirl was a twist on the concept but the "bad girl" revived as a different "good girl" was done before with Halo of the Outsiders and Peter David's Supergirl. Her horror over being destined to be with Hawkman was the most interesting thing about her but they made them a couple anyway.

  • There are no boring characters... just boring writers.

Did you know there are still unpublished "Dingbats of Danger Street" stories by Jack Kirby? (Two I think.)

  • I've only actually read the Silver Age Hawkman. IMO they should have kept the Egyptian/Reincarnation stuff with the Earth 2 version. The Thanagarian Hawks were interesting to me and I loved Murphy Anderson. Their villains were never that great.
