New Mutants #6 (SPOILERS)

So, guess who's back? That's right, Doug Ramsey. Well, sort of--he's either dead or reanimated or something in between, and he's working for Selene. Oh, and guess what? He's reading body language now, which has turned him into a badass. He takes down the team fairly easily until Xian is able to possess him briefly. Then, when Warlock (also returning to the fold) attempts to help him, he kills Warlock as well (for now...after all, we don't know how dead Warlock really is or can be). I know we've discussed imagining Doug's powers being more useful in the past, in fact I know that we've specifically discussed him using them to read body language. I think it's kind of neat to see an idea like this make it to the comics. Anyone else have any thoughts?

  • For starters, I'm not at all thrilled that death has spat back another deceased hero. I mean, c'mon. It's not like he died in any ambiguous way. He was shot by a very ordinary bullet from a very ordinary gun. He was dead, dead, dead...even autopsied if I remember correctly. Even reanimated--and EW!--the body should have none of Doug's memories. I know I'm being a grump but this just ticks me off.

Now, the idea that Doug could read body language--OK. But he was never, NEVER much of a fighter. Seeing what your opponent is going to do and being able to react in time to do something about it are two different things.

I'm glad I dropped the title with #4.
  • Yeah, even if I knew precisely what an opponent was going to do, it wouldn't help me a bit:

Hmm, from the way she's standing, Greased Lightning is about to hit me with her patented super-fast left hoo-" BAM! THUD! "By golly, she did it! Just as I foresaw! OWWW!"
  • Well, FWIW, he was infected with the techno-virus, so that could have a lot to do with him retaining his memory.

I'm also not sure how 'alive' he is. it's suggested that he's essentially a zombie, albeit not one of the shambling, brain-eating types with rotted skin.

That's also probably why he can actually do something with the body language he's reading. Techno-organic virus steroids!

Check out the Secret Headquarters (my store) website! It's a pretty lame website, but I did it myself, so tough noogies

Listen to WOXY.com, it's the future of rock-n-roll!
