No Mercy

Did anyone else get the first issue of No Mercy from Image this week? It's written by Alex De Campi (Grindhouse), and drawn by Carla Speed McNeil (Finder), which was enough to recommend it to me from the jump. It's about a group of teens who head to South America to build houses in poverty-stricken areas, but on the way to the site, their bus careens off a cliff, and not everyone survives. Night is falling, and coyotes are closing in...

It looks like a fantastic survival/suspense series, and I'm 100% on board. It's a knockout -- I hope some of you give it a try.

  • I read it, Rob.

I've been on such a trip and it is pretty funny how accurate it was with the way it showed the personalities of people at that age. I had actually forgotten how shallow you are when you're that age--girls falling for guys like the "freegan", for instance. The bully brother to his overweight little sister seemed like kind of a caricature to me, but I can't imagine being that mean to my sister in public. Everyone feeling so optimistic, but also so entitled. I think the reason I am not more annoyed by this book is that Alex De Campi and Carla Speed McNeil do not seem to be exalting these characters whatsoever. They are played up as annoying as they actually are. There are enough redeemable characters here that it's going to keep me coming back next month for sure.
