R.I.P. Bradford Dillman, 1930-2018

The Legion of "Hey, It's That Guy!" Character Actors loses another one.

From The Hollywood Reporter:  "Bradford Dillman, Actor in 'Compulsion' and 'The Way We Were,' Dies at 87"

I have to confess, I didn't know he was still around. He was one of those guys who guest starred in every other TV show on the dial back in the '60s and '70s.

  • Same here, CK. I would recognize him when he came on, and even knew his name. "Say, it's Bradford Dillman," I would say. But I stopped seeing him, and therefore thinking about him, probably a couple of decades ago.

I don't know why I knew his name. He's no different than the rest of the "Hey, it's that guy" crowd.

  • There's something catchy his name, and those four syllables.

Like Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney. Their names stick out, even though they are pretty interchangeable and are often confused for each other. Dylan McDermott is in a new TV series, L.A. to Vegas, and somebody had the bright idea to also put Dermot Mulroney in it.

  • Dillman starred in the "Night Gallery" episode that adapted Lovecraft's "Pickman's Model." I think that's where I learned his name.
