War of the Monsters, Destroy All Planets, Gamera vs. Monster X, and Attack of the Monsters are the English dubbed versions that were released to American theaters. Those are the titles I have on my collection too. They're also the names I remember from when I used to see them on TV. The first film is unusual since it's Gammera the Invincible with two m's while the others are all Gamera with one m. Gamera the Super Monster isn't on my set. It's a much later film made by a different company. The only time I ever saw it was when Elvira aired it long after the other films had disappeared from the airwaves.
Which Gamera films weren't on MST3K?

I saw a lot of my friend’s MST3Ks taped on one of their “Turkey Day” marathons. One endlessly repeated commercial really bugged me: the one in which the female fan exclaimed, “I get all the jokes!” Nobody gets all the jokes, sister. Which led me to invent a drinking game two or more can play.
When you hear an obscure pop culture reference, you may challenge a fellow viewer to identify it. If he cannot he must take a shot, but if he can the challenger must take a shot. The other viewers are the judges. It’s not just a game of what you know, but of what you think your opponent doesn’t know.

Odd because Viras and Jiger used to air all the time. Guiron was very rare and I've seen Super Monster exactly once. Never saw Gammera the Invincible or Barugon or Zigra except on DVD.
I've heard there are talks about bringing MST3K back. Maybe they'll get to them yet.

Show 323: "The Castle of Fu Manchu", first broadcast 1/18/1992
The Film: This picture is from 1968, and, setting aside the issue of having a European actor playing an Asian character and the whole "Yellow Peril" paranoia that said character springs from, this picture is a muddled, poorly-made mess, in which a gang of upper-class British twits must save the world from the evil doctor's incomprehensible plan. Christopher Lee does the best he can as Fu, but even he can't groom this dog.
The host Segments: Joel and the Bots sing a rousing song about their life. The Bots invent a long-distance telephone transducer. Doctor F invents the Stinky Bomb. Crow discusses "Miss Saigon Syndrome", then breaks down in tears. The Mads gloat. Servo plays a Shriner with a CB radio on a flying carpet, then breaks down in tears. The Mads gloat. Joel tells the story of Fu Manchu, then breaks down in tears. The Mads gloat. Joel challenges the Mads to watch the movie and comment on it. They do poorly. Joel and the Bots gloat.
Rating: Bleh. This one is harder to watch than "Manos". The film is dull and the host segments are unpleasant. Possibly my least favorite so far.

Show 608: "Code Name: Diamond Head", first broadcast 10/1/1994
The Short: From 1947, "A Day At The Fair" is pretty much what you'd expect, corn-fed young white people doing things with cows. Not sure who this was aimed at. Presumably, farm folk would have experienced fairs first-hand, and city folk wouldn'tve been able to relate to it.
The Film: From 1977, this was a Quinn Martin TV movie/failed pilot, starring Roy Thinnes, Zulu, and Ian McShane, who apparently was in something called "Lovejoy", which I've never heard of, but which MIke and the Bots make a big deal about. It's sort-of low-level secret agent stuff. Unsurprising that it didn't make it to series.
The Host Segments: The SOL is a mess. The Mads get competitive about how clean they are. Mike and the Bots jettison their trash into space. Crow and Servo complain that Mike is too nice. Magic Voice and Cambot show them an alternate Mike who is a combination abusive father/boy scout that I think must be a parody of De Niro in "This Boy's Life". Later they show them what life would be like with Brad Roberts of the Crash Test Dummies, and later still, the Frugal Gourmet. Basically Mike Nelson gets to show off his impersonation skills. Mike and the Bots have a Hawaiian-themed party. The Mads bathe together.
Rating: An OK episode. The film is forgettable, but the host segments are fun.

I've not seen that one. It was directed by Jesus Franco, who has a bit of a cult following of the Ed Wood kind. Richard Greene, who played Nayland Smith, was Robin Hood in the British The Adventures of Robin Hood TV show.

Show 611: "Last of the Wild Horses", first broadcast 10/15/1994
The Film: From 1948. A forgettable, low-grade Robert Lippert Western.
The Host Segments: Mike has programmed Crow and Servo to have different regional accents. Hilarity does not ensue. Dr. F sends a matter transference device up to the SOL during an ion storm, causing Servo and Gypsy to be transposed with their counterparts in the Mirror Universe, where evil versions of Mike and the Bots live in Deep 13 and force good versions of Frank and Forrester to watch bad movies. Frank and Forrester are in the theater for the first part of the film. The Mirror Frank and Forrester sing the "Joey the Lemur" song for some reason. On "our" SOL, Mike and Crow must deal with Mirror-Servo. They work out what to do. Mirror-Gypsy comes on to Mirror-Servo, which is kind of weird. Mike and Crow consult the Alternate Universe Handbook, while Mirror-Servo tries to kill Mike. In the Mirror Deep 13, Mirror-Crow (with a scar on his beak) tries to kill Mirror-Mike (with a goatee and sleeveless gold outfit). Servo and Gypsy consult the computer in Mirror Deep 13, which sounds like Torgo, for some reason. They have the Mirror Frank and Forrester send the matter transference device back down, which shifts everyone back to their proper universes. The Mads discover an agony booth in their Deep 13, After the film, Mirror Frank and Forrester call "our" SOL, but even as good guys, they're kind of annoying. In Deep 13, the Mads enjoy the agony booth waaaay too much.
Rating: One of my all-time favorite episodes. The film is forgettable, but the host segments are a very funny parody of one of my favorite Star Trek episodes. Nelson, Murphy, Beaulieu and Mallon really go to town playing evil versions of their regular characters. Beaulieu and Conniff do reasonably well in riffing on the film, as well. Really fun stuff.

Show 310: "Fugitive Alien", first broadcast 8/17/1991
The Film: This was actually a couple of strung-together episodes of a 1978 Japanese TV series called Star Wolf (although the "film" was released in 1986), based on some novels by Edmond Hamilton. (Very loosely based, I'm guessing.) Essentially, in the wake of Star Wars, Japanese TV looked for any sci-fi property it could license, and this was one of them. In it, a space guy called Ken does some stuff, and things occur. It's not that bad for 70's Japanese tokusatsu.
The Host Segments: Joel pretend to be a dairy farmer from southern Wisconsin. The Mads invent the orbito-oto-rhino-laryngological dropper. Joel invents the musical chair. Jack Perkins (Mike Nelson) introduces the movie. Joel and the Bots have a hat party. Jack Perkins won't shut up. Joel forces the Bots to dress up as characters from the movie. Joel compares the film to Syd Fields' screenplay model. Jack Perkins still won't shut up. The Cool Thing from Episode 208 is revealed to be Mexican Stoplight Candy. Jack Perkins is still talking.
(A note regarding Jack Perkins: He is apparently a real person, a journalist who at one point hosted Biography on A&E. I note this because I had never heard of him outside of the frequent parodies of him on MST3K. I still have never seen the real Jack Perkins in anything. Apparently, he takes the ribbing good-naturedly and was even a fan of the show.)
Favorite Lines:
- "You're stuck here!"
- "He tried to kill me with a forklift!"
Rating: An OK episode. Amusing enough.

The Film: Ken and his space buddies fight space baddies.
The Host Segments: Tom and Crow argue about puppets. The Mads invent Big Noses. Joel invents the Big Head. Servo's head explodes in the theater. Joel and Crow revive him melodramatically. Joel and the Bots demonstrate the Captain Joe action figure. Joel and the Bots sing songs about the movie. Crow and Servo discus movies they'd like to see, and design villains.
Rating: An OK episode. Mildly amusing.
