OK, I'll be handling this one a little differently than some of the other TV series I've re-watched. I don't own every episode of this, and what I do own isn't in broadcast order, so I'll be watching them as I find them, and updating this initial post as to where they sit in the show's history.

Show 108: "The Slime People", first broadcast 12/30/1989

The Short: "Radar Men from the moon", Chapter Six: "Hills of Death".   More nonsense with the Commando. Cliffhanger: Cody is knocked off a cliff!  (Of course, he's wearing his flying suit, so it's hard to work up a lot of concern.)

The Film: from 1964, Reptile people invade Los Angeles. An OK example of its type. Another movie monster that is stopped by sodium!

The Host Segments: Crow is a morning person. Joel and Servo are not.  Joel plays Find the Lady with the Bots. Joel invents Cartoon Eyes. the Mads have invented cotton candy that screams when you bite it.  Joel and the Bots put Commando Cody on trial.  Later, they discuss why the movie was made.  The Bots spread fog on the SOL. Joel makes a silicon diode pie. Gypsy eats it. The Mads are unimpressed by it all.

Rating: An OK episode.

Show 102: "The Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy", first broadcast 11/25/1989

The Short:  "Radar Men From the Moon" Chapter One: "Moon Rocket". Hostile moon men do some stuff.  Cliffhanger: Someone shoots at Cody.

The Film: A Mexican film from 1959, the title pretty much says it all. This film is about 90% scenes of people sitting around delivering exposition.

The Host Segments: Joel invent the Airbag Helmet.  The Mads invent the Chalk Man. Demon Dogs are swarming the SOL.  Servo goes out to shoo them off. It doesn't go well.  Enoch, the king of the Demon Dogs, comes in to talk to Joel and the Bots. Gypsy attacks him. Crow goes out to shoo the Demon Dogs off. It doesn't go well.  A Demon Dog appears in the theater - they have invaded the SOL!   Joel and the Bots lure them away using a service pod like a tennis ball.

Rating: An OK episode.

Show 405: "Being From Another Planet", first broadcast 7/4/1992

The Film:   From 1982, nonsense about a space mummy, memorable only for being the debut film of Shari Belafonte.

The Host Segments: Joel and the Bots play Twenty Questions. The Mads invent Tragic Moments Figurines, Joel and the Bota invent the Jack Palance Impersonator Kit.  Later, they discuss Billy Mumy.  Crow and Servo try to scare Joel with a haunted boiler room. The SOL is visited by the Fun-Time Holo-Clowns (Mike and Paul). Joel and the Bots invent the TV's Frank Shopping Network in another attempt to get down to Earth.

Rating: A so-so episode.

That finishes out Season Four.

Show 616: "Racket Girls", first broadcast 11/26/1994

The  Short: "Are You Ready for Marriage?" (1950) shows us two young dullards/lovers who are considering marriage. Possibly some valid points in here, but the presentation is risible.

The Film: From 1951, a film about women's wrestling and the mob.  Manages to make scantily-clad women grappling as unsexy as possible, especially when you consider that they could all be your great-aunts.

The Host Segments: Lisa Loeb (Bridget) visits the SOL.  She gets annoying real fast.  A family (Paul, Mary Jo, Patrick) wanders into Deep 13, causing Dr.F to have security concerns. Frank messes with him, as do Mike and the Bots.  Crow asks for Servo's hand in marriage. The Mads are scornful.  Crow has hired Jan in the Pan to be the dancer at his bachelor party.  The wedding dissolves into wrestling, both on the SOL and in Deep 13.  Mike and the Bots dress as wrestlers, while he reads a letter.  Lisa Loeb appears in Deep 13.

Favorite Lines:

  • "Welcome to 'as far as you're gonna get'."
  • "Bobby Orr's Electric Marriage - real marriage action!"
  • "I like to sleep with my head in a catcher's mitt."
  • "But never make light of 'boing', son."

Rating: A good episode.  The short is a classic  (for extra fun, imagine you favorite married couple as the young dullards/lovers) and the film riffing is pretty good, too..

That finishes up Season six. I've pretty munch gone through all the episodes I've got on tape. I'm looking elsewhere to find the remaining ones.

MST3K - The Home Game: "The Day the World Ended", first broadcast 2/25/1997

This was an episode designed to introduce the show to new viewers when it was new on the Sci-Fi Channel.  There were no comments from the regular cast - instead, viewers could post their own comments as they watched along.  Instead of host segments, the were little behind-the scenes inserts with the cast.

The Film: from 1955, one of my favorite post-nuclear pictures. which manages to be both cheesy and scary. Features a young Mike "Touch" Connors as a cowardly hood.

Rating:  An interesting curiosity. The viewers' comments aren't especially funny. Proof, if any were needed, that what the writers did wasn't as easy as it might seem.

Show 113: "The Black Scorpion", first broadcast 2/3/1990

The Film:  From 1957, giant scorpions invade Mexico. An OK example of the 50's "big bug" movie.

The Hot Segments:  Joel and the Bot have a party.  The Mads have accidentally mutated themselves. Joel invents a giant party favor, which the Mads have copied. Joel and the Bots speak in  broken Spanish. It's mildly racist.  Gypsy is a giant scorpion. Crow and Servo are unimpressed. She attacks Servo.  Joel and the Bots pay tribute to Willis O'Brien. Joel reads some letters.

Favorite Line:  "By this time, my lungs were aching for air."  So, they used that before "Rocketship X-M"?  that's what I get for watching these out of order.

Rating: An OK episode.

Show 103: "The Mad Monster", first broadcast 12/2/1989

The Short:  "Radar Men from the Moon" Chapter Two: ""Molten Terror".   You know, a ray gun that takes twenty minutes to re-load after one shot isn't much use. Cliffhanger: Cody and pal are trapped by lava!

The Film: From 1942, a scientist turns his handyman into  a werewolf to prove a point to his colleagues. Mediocre.

The Host Segments;  Forrester and Ehrhardt discuss when they went mad. Joel invents Hell in a Handbag.  The Mads invent the Acetylene-Powered Thunder Lizard.  Servo come son to a blender.  Crow and Servo question whether werewolves eat their victims. Joel swaps Crow and Servo's heads. Joel and the Bots argue.  The Mads are upset that the scientist in the movie died.

Favorite Line:  "That felt good. Now I'm gonna go turn my daughter into a woodchuck."

Rating: Another OK episode.

Show 104: "Women of the Prehistoric Planet",  first broadcast 2/20/1990

The Film:  From 1996, a starship crashes on a primitive planet and encounters a heavy-handed metaphor for racism.  The film is nicely-shot,

The Host Segments:  Joel re-models the SP: to look like a talk show set.  The Mads invent Clay and Lar's Flesh Barn. Joel invents Toilet Paper in a Bottle.  Crow and Servo give Joel the "This Is Your Life" treatment. Joel brings a death satellite aboard the SOL. Joel works to disarm it.  It transforms Joel, Crow and Servo into Isaac Asimov. Joel reads some letters.

Favorite Line: "Hi-Keeba!"  (First use of this.)

Rating:  An OK episode.

Show 112: "Untamed Youth", first broadcast 1/27/1990

The Film: From 1957, Mamie Van Doren and Lori Nelson star as hitchhiking sisters who get busted for vagrancy and are sentenced to 30 days on a corrupt cotton farm.  Mamie's "talents" are on display here as she sings several times.  OK if you like odd little exploitation pictures.

The Host Segments:  Servo has a magnetic tapeworm. Joel invents the Never-Light Pipe. The  Mads invent Tongue Puppets, which sounds like something someone must have done in real life at some point.

Joel and the Bots celebrate "Greg Brady - An American Legacy." Crow flashes back to Joel tinkering with gypsy so they can see inside her brain. Gypsy fills the SOL with cotton. Crow and Servo ask Joel about the goofy guy in the film. Joel reads some letters.

Rating: An OK episode. The host segments are so-so, but the film riffs are OK.

That finishes up Season One. those were better than I'd been led to expect. As far as I can tell, I've got one left from Season Five, and four left from Season Ten, plus a few odds and ends.
