  • Aw. One of my favorites.

  • I mean, he had a good, long life, but I suppose it's a sign of true greatness when a person lives to a ripe old age, and it still feels as if they're gone too soon.

  • I always wished I could draw like that. He's on my comics Mount Rushmore as one of the unparalleled greats. Part of the reason I loved Sgt. Rock so much was because of his fluid, realistic style.

  • Here's a retrospective of his career that CBR did in 2014: "LIVING LEGEND: Why You Should Know the Work of Russ Heath"

It cites his work on Westerns, war comics (The Haunted Tank, Sgt. Rock, etc.), humor (Little Annie Fanny for Playboy, "Plastic Sam" for MAD). It doesn't mention that he drew the classic tale "The Last Bounty Hunter," in Jonah Hex Spectacular -- the one where Hex meets his end and gets stuffed and mounted.

  • Rest in peace.

Part of an interview Mr Heath did for Comic Book Artist can be read here.

  • As I've started picking up war books in recent years, I've always loved seeing his art.

Mark Evanier recounts of one of Heath's adventures here.

  • RIP Mr Heath.

  • Doggone it. Russ Heath was one of the old pros.

    Rest in peace, man.
