  • I've never been very interested in GI Joe (slightly after my time I think)

But that is a nice bit of writing.

And a comic by a Vietnam vet gun-nut?

    That's a good sell!

    Maybe an Essential some day?
  • That issue has stuck with me as well. I've always felt that Hama's G.I Joe was one of Marvel's best books for a period covering (roughly) early 1983 through early 1984. The rest of Hama's run on the book was very good, but that particular stretch is classic IMO.

That is a great issue, in the middle of a great run.

No Essentials, but there are color trades instead. Marvel released five volumes of GI Joe about five years ago. IDW, the current license holder, has been re-releasing those same trades as Classic GI Joe and has solicited a sixth volume for this fall. The silent issue should be in the third volume (they collect ten issues each).

I'll have to Byrne-steal it someday, if everyone, including Scott McCloud, makes the big deal of it!

Even the most vigilant comicbookstore guy wouldn't spot me in the time it takes to read a silent issue.
