Shock Godzilla report

Most of us, watching Godzilla or Gamera films, have always assumed Godzilla, Gamera and those other monsters really had it in for each other. But it turns out it's not so.

All those battles were really arranged by promoters. And they fixed the results beforehand.

This has been revealed in an exclusive interview obtained by the Outer Lunar Times with whistleblower Dr. Who, best known today for his role in the well-remembered King Kong/Mechani-Kong showdown. "They thought they'd gone as far as they could with human wrestlers, and were looking for something new. A scout found Godzilla on some lonely pacific island and brought him to Japan."

Things almost went south right at the start when Godzilla got drunk and went on a rampage in Tokyo. "It turned out OK, because it gave rise to this tremendous interest. But they kept him on a shorter leash after that."

"The storylines were always written in advance. Godzilla liked to improvise a bit and could get out of hand, as when he destroyed that head of Ghidorah's. Everything in a Gamera bout was choreographed beforehand."

Due to ego problems a Godzilla vs. Gamera match never eventuated. "Both stars thought they should win. They got into a real fight over it at Toho during the negotiation and wrecked half the studio. Toho was so angry it talked about dumping Godzilla for Santo. Mothra was seeing Godzilla at the time and calmed them down by agreeing to come back, but Gamera still bowed out. The result was Destroy All Monsters, which was how Toho felt by that point."

After his successes in The King Kong Show and King Kong Escapes Who's career stalled, but he isn't bitter. "Kong thought he was on the way up again with that remake of his biopic in 1976, but then he had his heart problems. He had to do King Kong Lives for the money, and it was just sad. I think I got out in time."

Gamera, who now resides in a monastic community outside Osaka, could not be reached for comment. Godzilla, visiting Hawaii, ate our reporter.

  • Awesome.
  • I think Godzilla simply wanted to be left alone and constantly had to defend itself from nosey reporters and an overzealous military. As for Gamera, it is just a stressed out child advocate at the end of its rope. They have separate goals and could care less about having to deal with each other. LOL.
