TCM is going to be showing a lot of Boris Karloff movies tomorrow, including the Mask of Fu Manchu which I think is the only time Karloff and Myrna Loy ever teamed up for a movie.

I believe The Mask of Fu Manchu and The Ghoul were considered lost films for a couple of decades, and Forrest J. Ackerman said in Famous Monsters that he hoped they were found one day.
I don't know if Fu was ever lost, but for some time it was available only in a bowdlerized cut, with the racial slurs in both directions trimmed out. TNT used to run the "PC" version in those days before TCM existed.
When they put Mr. Magoo on DVD, they had some episodes with his servant Charlie with his original "Magloo" accent, and some without an accent. Apparently the original sound tracks of some episodes were lost over the years and the dubbed versions are the only ones that still exist.
...Speaking of redubbed shorts , how about the seen-only-by-her-legs domestic in the Tom & Jerry cartoons ?
Vocally , I believe she started out as a 1940s idea of an African-American domestic , with a black person's legs , but at various times got redubbed - by June Foray ????? - with an " Oirish " , " Bridget " , sort of accent , then maybe a more modern African-American one??? A generically Caucasian one??? - with new frames giving her white legs at least at some times .
Buzzy The Funny Crow/Black Crow apparently has been re-dubbed , sho' 'nuff boss , in modern times but I've never heard the redubbed versions .
There are things you just can't do anymore. But in this case Boris Karloff as Fu Manchu... he made it work but only by attitude.
