To help us appreciate comic book art I'd like to start a sort of forum game. Respond to this post with a "GIVE ME AN ARTIST!" message and I will will assign you a comic book artist.

RULES UPDATE!

I'll list an artist and everyone who wants to join in can do so! When I list an artist, you have 24 hours to post an image before we move on to the next one.

It doesn't matter if you don't know their work; just Google the artist and choose an image of the one you like most, and add it into this thread. Try not to repeat images someone else has posted.

I'll urge you to make comments about your post and others people have posted.

Today we focus on Dapper Don Heck!

I can play this one.

Never been a great fan but I've come to appreciate Heck more and more over the years...

To me his art usually has a hasty, careless look. For example, on the page posted by Howard Wanda's figure is out of proportion. I believe art should be judged more by its strengths than its weaknesses, but that kind of thing prevents me enjoying his work.

Here's an informative Iron Man piece by Heck. I love these kinds of encyclopedia pieces.

That's a great "glum" look on Happy, there.

I was never much of a fan of his work, but this is a great, gruesome cover:

At the time Iron Man had the rivets on his helmet I wrote a letter to them complaining that the separation between the red and yellow on his helmet never lined up with the rivets. I suggested changing it to a solid line. They did that soon after.

Here's a good Don Heck cover.

I think Don Heck, I think beautiful women...and eyebrows.

I think Don Heck gets a bad rap for the most part. Today we seem to tolerate artists and writers being late with their work. If not for speedy, competent artists like Don Heck we would have had a lot fewer Marvel comics in the Silver Age.
