Season One, Episode One:  "I, Robot"

Characters We Meet:

  • Captain Murphy - Commander of Sealab, incompetent, petulant and self-absorbed, looks a bit like Race Bannon.
  • Sparks - The radioman, never gets out of his chair.  A white guy.
  • Marco - Hispanic man, voiced by Erik Estrada.
  • Debbie - Blonde white woman.
  • Dr. Quinn - African-American man , a "one sane man" character. a super-genius.
  • Stormy  - Not very bright white guy.
  • Hesh - Weird little white guy, some kind of underling. Refers to himself in the third person.

Story: A ship collides with Sealab, causing a dangerous hull breach. However, almost everyone is obsessed with a news story they about a monkey's brain beeing implanted in a robot body, beginning lengthy debate about whether they would want robot bodies and what the rules of having robot bodies would be. It is left to Quinn to repair the hull breach.  He reveals to the others that he is already a cyborg, with a robot body of his own design.  The episode ends with Sealab exploding.

Overall: A fun start.  I'm a sucker for situations where people obsess about stupid stuff while serious things are going on all around them.  I also like the distinctive voice of Harry Goz, the actor who performed the voice of Captain Murphy. For some reason, the way he says  "Holy crap!" just kills me.

Season Four, Episode Seven"Butchslap"

Character Stuff:  Marco is nearly eighty.  He was the character "Todd" on Butch  Cassidy and the Sundance Kids and "Fidelito" on a telenovela called Mi Amor Peligroso.

Story:  Marco convinces Debbie DuPree to change her sinful ways, causing her to break up with Quinn. Quinn finds out that Marco is on the run from Cartoon Network.  The network forces the Sealabbers to film an episode of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids. Shanks drops his Southern accent because it makes people think he's gay.

Overall:  Another so-so episode.

Season Four, Episode Eight"Monkey Banana Raffle"

Character We Meet:  Max Stone, extreme trillionaiure.

Story: Max Stone buys Sealab and somehow makes things run more smoothly.

Overall:  An OK episode.  To damn with faint praise, it's one of the better Season Four episodes.

Season Four, Episode Nine:  "Shrabster"

Character Stuff:  Hesh is Jewish.

Story: Quinn genetically engineers a life form that Grizzlebee's wants to use as an entree.  The story is told backwards like that one Seinfeld episode.

Season Four, Episode Ten"Cavemen"

Story:  Quinn and Stormy are trapped in a cave by a shark after Sealab was destroyed in a reactor accident. Eventually, they die and go  to heaven.

Overall: An OK episode.

Season Four, Episode Eleven"Moby Sick"

Overall:  Another so-so episode.

Season Four, Episode Twelve:  "No Waterworld"

Story:  An aquatic race called the the Aquarians erects a forcefield around Sealab as an experiment, causing the water around it to drain away.  Debbie DuPree is the only one who takes it seriously. Sparks sells all the scuba gear aand shoots out all the windows on Sealab, just beforte all the water comes back.

Overall:   Another so-so epiode.

Season Four, Episode Thirteen:  Legacy of Laughter"

Story:  Toni Carmel hosts a tribute to Sealab 2021.  The cast answers questions froma studio audience, most of which are questions about Aqua Teen Hunger Force,  The show ends with a tribute to Captain Murphy.

Overall:  An OK episode.

Saeson Four DVD Extras:

"Shrabster":  The events of "Shrabster" told in chronological order.

"Legacy of Laughter" Alternate Ending:  Brett Butler is told of the show's cancellation.

"Joy of Grief" Deleted Scenes:  Stormy farts a lot.

"Best of Sealb/Sunken Treasures" : Two talking trees show clips of scenes from the show.

"Nightshift": A look at Sealab's night shift.  An interesting idea.

Overall:  An enjoyable show, very funny at its best, but not as consistently great as I had remembered it being.
