- The Atlanteans detect the onset of a geological event that will destroy Atlantis. Each of the five powers begins preparing in its own way:
- The Kobolites construct a space fleet. Selected citizens flee to deep space, where they colonize a planet they name “Kobol”, unaware that this world was the original Kobol, settled by the Bedrock civilization millennia before. They subsequently colonize twelve additional Earth-like planets. Unknown to them, they are actually re-colonizing the same twelve colony worlds of the original Kobolites. That this could be coincidence seems extremely unlikely, but no other explanation has been found.
- The Mondasi construct the great world-ship Mondas which carries a large portion of their population off into deep space. These are the ancestors of the Cybermen. (6)
- The inhabitants of Atlantis City have perfected a means of genetically altering themselves so that they can survive underwater. These are the ancestors of the Sub-Mariner’s people.
- The inhabitants of Poseidonis also develop a means to alter themselves so that they can survive underwater. These are the ancestors of Aquaman’s people.
- The inhabitants of Tritonis build an impenetrable dome over their city, capable of surviving the coming disaster. These are the ancestors of Lori Lemaris’ people.
