Doctor Who Comics Day 2020 (Nov. 21)

Titan Comics is pleased to announce the return of Doctor Who Comics Day this year, with the brand-new Doctor Who Time Lord Victorious comic collection and the launch of a new comic series. Celebrations will be taking place on Saturday, November 21st.

Doctor Who Comics Day is a global event inspired by Titan Comics’ Doctor Who comics and collections. After a gap year in 2019, Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, will mark the sixth Doctor Who Comics Day and will be the biggest yet with the release of the Doctor Who Time Lord Victorious comic collection, plus the launch of a new comic series starring the Thirteenth and Tenth Doctor. Whovians across the globe can celebrate this event from the comfort of their homes on digital platforms, or in person at comic shops, bookstores, libraries where these are open and have suitable social distancing measures in place.

Time Lord Victorious is a brand-new multi-platform Doctor Who story told across audio, novels, comics, vinyl, digital, immersive theatre, escape rooms and games. Titan’s contribution to Time Lord Victorious is a special Tenth Doctor adventure that sees the Doctor’s most iconic enemy, the Daleks, make their Titan Comics debut.

If that wasn’t enough of a reason to get involved, Titan is also excited to reveal that an all-new comic series, which sees Rose Tyler, the Thirteenth and Tenth Doctor teaming up, will launch as part of the event, separately to Time Lord Victorious.

Both the Doctor Who Time Lord Victorious collection and the new comic series are written by Eisner-nominated Jody Houser (Stranger Things, Star Wars, Spider-Man) with art by Roberta Ingranata (Witchblade) and Enrica Eren Angiolini (Shades of Magic).

Fans will have the opportunity to collect a fantastic range of beautiful covers as part of Doctor Who Comics Day celebrations, including artwork by Peach Momoko and an exclusive Doctor Who Comics Day cover by Rachael Stott - only available in comic shops.

Barbalien: Red Planet #1 (of 5)

A groundbreaking new historical sci-fi series in Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston’s world of the Eisner Award–winning Black Hammer universe, about identity, survival, and the choices we make. Coming off of his work in The World of Black Hammer Encyclopedia, upcoming writer Tate Brombal, with Eisner-winning artist Gabriel Hernández Walta (Vision, Sentient), pens an origin story set during the heights of the HIV-AIDS crisis in Barbalien: Red Planet.

Mark Markz has found a comfortable life on Earth as both a decorated police officer and as the beloved superhero, Barbalien. But when Mark is suddenly thrust onto the frontlines of the AIDS crisis, his role as a cop raises doubts and he must now reckon with his own closeted sexuality. Growing tensions make balancing his disparate identities seem impossible — especially when a Martian enemy from his past hunts him down on Earth to take him home, dead or alive. Heroism, privilege, and complacency are all called into question, as Mark becomes more-and-more embroiled in the activism of the time and with the man leading its charge — the handsome and headstrong Miguel.

Barbalien: Red Planet #1 (of five) will debut just in time for LGBTQ Pride Month and will hit shelves June 24, 2020, and is available for pre-order at your local comic shop. Be sure to pick up the crossover event of 2019 in the hardcover collection of Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer of Justice, available everywhere books are sold April 7, 2020! Praise for Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer of Justice:

“Cross-company titles are always a novelty, but I am hard pressed to think of one as true to itself and its sources than Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer of Justice. Leaning into the cinematic weirdness of Black Hammer, which is itself a sort of a love letter to the various subgenres of comics, as well as the mythic stakes of the Justice League, Jeff Lemire and Michael Walsh somehow pay loving tribute to both.” — Newsarama

“You can’t peel your eyes away from it. It’s fast paced and fun with a lot of surprises.” — Forces Of Geek

“Lemire has a reputation for exceeding recommended absolute ceilings, to reach higher and brush stardust. This is a worthy ascent, one with his largest payload to date.” — DoomRocket

“It's the most fun I’ve had reading Justice League in quite some time.” — Sequential Planet

Sea of Sorrows #1 (of 5)

by Rich Douek and Alex Cormack

Building upon the success of last year’s hit horror series Road of Bones, the creative team of writer Rich Douek and artist Alex Cormack reunite to bring readers a deep sea adventure with a horrific twist: the five-issue Sea of Sorrows!

In the aftermath of the Great War, the North Atlantic is ripe for plunder by independent salvage crews. When a former naval officer hires the SS Vagabond, he leads the ship to a sunken U-boat, and a fortune in gold. Tensions mount as the crew prepares to double cross each other, but the darkness of the ocean floor holds deeper terrors than any of them have bargained for!

"Alex and I are excited to put the same twisted imaginations that brought you Road of Bones to work on new places, new characters, and of course, new heights of unspeakable terror,” says Douek. “Get ready for another dark journey into the horrors that lurk within the pages of history!"

“The ocean is a terrifying and mysterious place,” says Cormack. “Sea of Sorrows reveals the isolation and horror of being in an alien world on our own planet, facing threats that should be impossible, chasing you through an inescapable setting. With the character designs and especially the story, this would be a book I’d draw just for myself. Rich is a talented writer and great collaborator. I’m happy to be along for the ride!”

Sea of Sorrows #1 will be available with Cover A by Alex Cormack, plus a Retailer Incentive variant edition by Katie Sawatsky.

Star Trek Voyager: Seven's Reckoning #1

Cover A by Angel Hernandez

Cover B featuring a cast photo of Seven of Nine as portrayed by Jeri Ryan

Retailer Incentive variant by Jeffrey Veregge (G.I. Joe, Red Wolf)

This November, IDW Publishing journeys deep into uncharted space, and even deeper into the human heart of a Borg drone, with the release of Star Trek: Voyager - Seven’s Reckoning, a four-issue monthly comic book miniseries written by Dave Baker (Star Trek: Waypoint, Action Hospital), illustrated by Angel Hernandez (Star Trek: Picard—Countdown, Transformers), and colored by Ronda Pattison (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).

Seven’s Reckoning opens with the USS Voyager encountering a damaged alien ship deep in the Delta Quadrant. What at first seems to be a simple repair mission becomes much more complicated for Seven of Nine as she becomes ensnared by an ancient conflict, one that puts her newfound humanity to the test.

“As a lifelong Star Trek fan, being able to play my small part in advancing the ideals of a better tomorrow means the world to me,” says Baker. “This plays directly into why I wanted to write the book to begin with. To put it simply, the stories we tell one another matter... and the stories we tell ourselves matter most of all.”

“After the amazing response to our Voyager one-shot set in the Mirror Universe, we’re thrilled to return to the Delta Quadrant for a full four issues,” says editor Chase Marotz. “Dave Baker is a talented writer and huge Trek fan with a great understanding of the characters. Angel Hernandez, who has wowed fans with his work on Star Trek / Green Lantern and Picard—Countdown, keeps getting better and better, and Ronda Pattison will bring her unique palette to an all-new alien species that we think fans are going to love. We have a great crew and can’t wait for people to see where we’re going!”

Commanders in Crisis #2

Steve Orlando and Davide Tinto’s new hit series Commanders In Crisis will pack an extra punch with four stunning variant covers for issue #2 this November.

These variant covers will showcase the talents of Joe Quinones (1:25 incentive), Brett Booth (1:10 incentive), Laura Braga, and Paul Harding.

"Commanders In Crisis has always been about loving our roots and looking to grow higher," said Orlando. "With incredible work from Laura Braga, we take the classic foundation of comic art and infuse it with bright, never energy. And with Paul Harding's digitally sculpted cover, we take comics art and covers somewhere they've never gone before! And that's before the addition of power hitters like Joe Quinones and Brett Booth to ISSUE 2! With Brett, we have a timeless style that drove the very era that made this humble author a lifelong comics fan—then and now his work explodes with wild, bombastic energy and adventure! I've meanwhile followed Joe's work since WEDNESDAY COMICS, and more recently DIAL H, where he spent a year plus reinventing how much creativity you could fit on page—he's created an instantly iconic, statuesque vision of our heroes, and I couldn't be more thankful! We ALL couldn't be more lucky to have these covers coming our way!"

In Commanders In Crisis #2, The Crisis Command, last survivors of the multiverse, are faced with an impossible task: avenging the death...of an idea! DOA is EMPATHY ITSELF, and while empathy withers and dies across the world, Originator uses her abilities to bring the John Doe back for 24 hours to reveal the name of his killer!

Rat Queens #22 2nd Ptg

Image/Shadowline will rush Rat Queens #22 by writer Ryan Ferrier (Rick and Morty, Narcos) and new series artists Moritat (Gunning for Hits) and Casey Silver back to print in order to keep up with growing customer demand.

"We're really honored to be able to join the pantheon of great artists that have made Rat Queens such a fantastic book," said Moritat and Silver. "Ryan has delivered a bombastically bizarre adventure that has to be seen to be believed and we couldn't be happier to deliver it to the fans! Huge thanks to the readers and retailers for the great response, we will strive to deliver a better looking comic with every issue!"

No gods. No rules. All problems. In Rat Queens #22, business is booming for our heroes-for-hire, but the dissolution of an ancient treaty has put Palisade in the crosshairs of a monster squad with an appetite for long nights, party fights, and wolf bites!

Wiebe added: "I've been absolutely floored by the work Moritat and Casey are doing this arc. They came and knocked it out of the park, and their first issue on the series deserves the sell out success. Big shout out to Ryan as well, for continuing to carry on the Rat Queens story with his special comedic flair."

Who are the Rat Queens? A pack of booze-guzzling, death-dealing battle maidens-for-hire, and they're in the business of killing all gods' creatures for profit. It's also a darkly comedic fantasy series starring Hannah the Rockabilly Elven Mage, Violet the Hipster Dwarven Fighter, Dee the Atheist Human Cleric and Betty the Hippy Hobbit Thief. A contemporary take on violent monster-killing epics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but set in a Lord of the Rings-esque world. The perfect series for D&D and RPG fanatics everywhere.

Rat Queens, Volumes 1-7 trade paperbacks and Rat Queens Book 1 Deluxe and Rat Queens Book 2 Deluxe hardcover editions are all available now at your local comic book shop or independent bookstore via Bookshop or IndieBound, or at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, and Indigo.

That Texas Blood #1 third printing, That Texas Blood #2 second printing, That Texas Blood #3 second printing, That Texas Blood #4 second printing will all land in stores from Image Comics in November.

“WELL. I’m so overwhelmed by the response to That Texas Blood. This was, and continues to be, a labor of love for both Jacob and myself. To have it find an audience that is so interactive and engaged is simply amazing,” said Condon. “Every tweet, every email, every note (I even got an actual physical letter at my LCS, Main Street Comics) is proof that dreams do come true and that art matters. 2020 hasn't been an easy year but our readers made it one of the best years of my life. Still...the dinner isn't over. What you've read was just the appetizer. Jacob and I are still cooking, our heads hanging over burning stove tops, mixing and stirring like mad scientists. The tastes of the courses to come will be unique; bitter at times, sweet at others, but always served in a beautiful Texan casserole dish. What? Was it something I said?”

Tsang Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Variant

With the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales this November, you’ll also find new variant covers for AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN this fall at your local comic book shop featuring the blockbuster video game’s web-slinger!

The five variant covers showcase Miles Morales at different points in his hero’s journey, all which tie back to the eagerly anticipated PlayStation game. Additionally, the covers have been done by some of the artists working on the game itself.

“Just as Marvel’s Spider-Man was a love letter to Peter Parker and his web-slinging alter-ego, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales celebrates every aspect of this break-out hero of a new generation,” said Marvel Games VP & head of creative Bill Rosemann. “Continuing that tradition of authenticity, the teams at Insomniac Games, PlayStation, and Marvel Games have united to spotlight the amazing behind-the-scenes artists who are bringing this action-packed game to life. What’s especially meaningful about this series of variant covers is that, if viewed in a particular order, they showcase our collective commitment to storytelling.”

As Rosemann explains, "First, we have the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #53.LR cover by Insomniac Games art director Jason Hickey, which joins Miles as he looks down upon an NYC infected by the new threat of Tinkerer and the Underground."

"Then we see the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #53 cover by Marvel Games creative director Tim Tsang capturing the moment when Miles makes the heroic decision to mask up, rise up, and defend his home and his loved ones.

"Next it’s the MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN #21 cover by Insomniac Games senior concept artist Nicholas Schumaker showcasing the speed and agility of Miles as he hurtles towards danger.

"Finally, the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #54 cover by Insomniac Games art director Gavin Goulden places us in the collision between Miles and the Tinkerer as they battle for the fate of the city. An entire saga in four images… with one more cover yet to be revealed!"

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will launch both physically and digitally on the PlayStation Store on November 12, 2020. For more information, visit Marvel.com.

Avengers: Marvels Snapshots #1

Cover by Alex Ross

Variant by Staz Johnson

Avengers: Marvels Snapshots #1 will be an Avengers story like none other by superstar writer Barbara Randall Kesel (Hawk & Dove, Ultragirl) and acclaimed artist Staz Johnson (New X-Men, Robin). Set during the influential David Michelinie, John Byrne, and George Perez era of AVENGERS, MARVELS SNAPSHOTS: AVENGERS will depict a romance that could only happen in the Marvel Universe when a rookie cop and new-to-the-city emergency medical technician meet amidst a devastating battle between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and a giant, rampaging robot!

“When Kurt first asked me about this project, it took me a minute to realize he wasn’t just telling me about this fun Marvels-eye concept, he was asking me if I wanted to be involved!” Kesel said. “My favorite stories are the ones that step into the personal lives of people in the vicinity of the Big Action, so a big YES to anything Marvels-scale, and getting to step back into that sweet yet insane 80s Avengers vibe was the frosting on the crazy cake! I have so totally enjoyed adding a little piece to the mighty Marvel mythos. Kurt started it off with an image that became the catalyst for two non-powered NYC heroes who would “meet cute” during a crisis. Then, when we started speculating about what the people on the street do when chunks of buildings fall from the sky … where do they go to shelter out the emergency?”

Marvel’s Voices: Indigenous Voices #1

Cover by Jim Terry & Brian Reber

Dani Moonstar variant cover by Afua Richardson

Marvel is proud to present one of the covers of this upcoming book, a striking depiction of one of Marvel’s most prominent Native characters, Dani Moonstar, by Eisner award-winning artist Afua Richardson. Known for her work on the critically acclaimed series, Black Panther: World of Wakanda, Richardson brings the New Mutants leader to life in this vibrant piece showing Moonstar readying her psionic bow for her latest battle. In MARVEL’S VOICES: INDIGENOUS VOICES #1, geoscientist and Lipan Apache writer Darcie Little Badger and acclaimed Whitefish Lake First Nation artist Kyle Charles will team up for a Dani Moonstar story, as the Cheyenne super hero faces the crucial question of what her Indigenous heritage means in the new era of mutantkind.

Dani Moonstar Native American tribute variant cover by Jeffrey Veregge

Marvel has announced MARVEL’S VOICES: INDIGENOUS VOICES #1, a landmark special written and drawn by some of the industry’s most renowned Indigenous talent including celebrated artist and writer Jeffrey Veregge. Veregge, who just wrapped up his exhibition Jeffrey Veregge: Of Gods and Heroes at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, also lent his talents to produce an extraordinary series of variant covers in November. The NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE TRIBUTE VARIANT COVERS will showcase Dani Moonstar, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Black Widow, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Thor depicted in Veregge’s iconic artistic Formline style.

“The story of the hero is an ancient one. Starting with the very first cave drawings, artists and writers from across the globe have both captured and shared the fateful acts of their people’s heroes. Being from the Pacific Northwest, my own people, the S’Klallam Tribe, have used the art style known as Formline to record and share the stories of our people since time immemorial. The art style I use in my own work today is an extension of the same shapes and forms used for hundreds of years by Native artists from and around the very same region,” Veregge said. “As a lifelong comic fan, artist and Native American, I am truly honored to work with Marvel Comics today. Not only to create pieces that represent a voice for Indigenous People in honor of Native American Heritage month, but also for the opportunity to share the same storytelling spirit of my ancestors by sharing the tales of some of today’s heroes.”

Sorcerer Supreme and Demon Rider Native American tribute variant cover by Jeffrey Veregge

Marvel is proud to present one of the covers of this upcoming book by celebrated artist and writer Jeffrey Veregge. This vibrant cover, done in Veregge’s iconic artistic Formline style, depicts the Sorcerer Supreme and the Ghost Rider of the mid-1800s, Kushala. The Apache warrior, also known as the Demon Rider, immediately garnered fan interest when she made her startling debut in 2016’s Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme by Robbie Thompson and Javier Rodriguez. As her origins were revealed, the character’s story added new depth to both the mythologies of the Spirit of Vengeance and the Mystic Arts. Fans will get to learn even more about Kushala in an exhilarating new solo comic series coming in 2021!

This November, Marvel celebrates Indigenous history with a landmark special, MARVEL’S VOICES: INDIGENOUS VOICES #1, written and drawn by some of the industry’s most renowned Indigenous talent along with talents making their Marvel Comics debut! Celebrated writer and artist Jeffrey Veregge, who just wrapped up his exhibition "Jeffrey Veregge: Of Gods and Heroes" at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, is leading this book alongside a team of acclaimed creators to explore the legacy and experiences of Marvel’s incredible cast of Indigenous characters.

Hugo, Nebula, and Locus-award winning Black/Ohkay Owingeh writer Rebecca Roanhorse and Tongva artist Weshoyot Alvitre tell an Echo tale like none before as she is set to play a critical role in Marvel Comics. Geoscientist and Lipan Apache writer Darcie Little Badger joins acclaimed Whitefish Lake First Nation artist Kyle Charles for a Dani Moonstar story where she will face the crucial question of what her Indigenous heritage means in the new era of mutantkind. And Bram Stoker-winning horror writer Stephen Graham Jones of the Blackfeet Nation teams up with Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation artist David Cutler to revisit one of the darkest spots of X-Men history!

"C.B. and I started talking about various Native projects a year ago when discussing my "Of God's & Heroes" Marvel art exhibit at the Smithsonian. I am truly grateful for the platform that Marvel has not only provided for me and my work, but with this edition of Marvel Voices, all of Native America," Veregge said. "This is an opportunity to share the cultural influences that we as Native artists and writers grew up with that will add more depth and dimension to the Native Heroes in the Marvel Universe."

“I am immensely grateful to be part of this project," Darcie Little Badger told AiPT in a recent interview. "The New Mutants (and other Marvel heroes) have made such a positive impact on my life, and I have a great deal of respect and affection for X-Men characters. The fact that Indigenous Voices gave me the opportunity to contribute to the X-Men universe means everything. I take the responsibility very seriously and am honored to work with my Indigenous Voices co-creators.”

MARVEL’S VOICES: INDIGENOUS VOICES #1 comes after the critically acclaimed MARVEL’S VOICES #1 anthology earlier this year, which featured top BIPOC talents such as James Monroe Iglehart, Sanford Greene, Method Man, Charlamagne tha God, Roxane Gay & more, telling stories about the X-Men, the Hulk, Black Panther, Killmonger, She-Hulk, Black Widow, and many more of Marvel’s iconic heroes. MARVEL’S VOICES: INDIGENOUS VOICES #1 kicks off the next phase of Marvel’s expanded Marvel’s Voices program to introduce fans to experience more inclusive stories and talent at Marvel Comics.

“Marvel’s Voices started in 2018, which grew and evolved from a popular Marvel podcast into a larger program within our comics,” said Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski. “Marvel’s Voices #1, our first anthology in this program, was released this past February, and the reception from fans was incredible. It was clear we needed to do more to lift up more voices and talent and increase representation in and behind our stories. This book is the first step of our next expansion of the program to not only elevate the diverse talent we already have at Marvel, but also discover new writers and artist who can bring their voices to our characters, both old and new. And this is only the beginning."

The Marvel's Voices bi-weekly Marvel podcast features guests from all across the Marvel Universe – including talent from Marvel’s comics, live-action television shows, animation, games, and more, along with celebrity fans of Marvel from entertainment and beyond. Since its debut two years ago, host Angélique Roché has continued to hold in-depth conversations with storytellers who have been creating unforgettable stories through their unique perspectives. The series will launch its newest season later this year.

Papercutz / $14.99

One of the world's greatest comics characters, the ever-fearless Asterix, continues to battle supposedly unbeatable odds to protect his tiny village from the Roman Empire. Fortunately, all of the villagers have super-strength thanks to a secret potion. In "Asterix and the Big Fight," one of the three classic Asterix graphic novels collected here, the Romans are beginning to wise up. Instead of trying to conquer Asterix's village, the Roman's challenge Vitalstatistx, chief of Asterix's tribe, to a one on one battle with the Gallo-Roman Chief, Cassius Ceramix of Linoleum. As per Ancient Gaulish customs, the loser would forfeit his entire tribe to the winner. "Asterix in Britain," the Romans have conquered all of Britain except for a single village in Kent. Sound familiar? Anticlimax, a member of that British village, travels to Gaul to seek help from his first cousin once removed, Asterix. Together, with Obelix, they decide to bring back a barrel full of the secret potion that imbues anyone with super-strength, but word leaks out, and the Romans will do anything they can to thwart this rescue mission. Finally, in "Asterix and the Normans," Asterix encounters a group of Normans who want to learn all about fear, and that's just the tip of the iceberg as far as how many strange and crazy things happen in this particular adventure. We won't even mention which pop star is parodied in this story! Just when you think you know what to expect in Asterix, the creators Goscinny and Uderzo throw things at you that you never could've imagined. That's probably why Asterix remains such a successful comics character to this day!
