  • Well, a few people might recognize him, he turns up in his old strip once or twice a year these days.

  • Link, please?

    The Sunday, October 19th strip.
  • Vitamin Flintheart was one of Chester Gould's characters. Information about him can be found here.

  • I was talking about Barney Google. I remember the strip from when I was growing up, but then it was called Snuffy Smith and Barney Google. I think I read later that Snuffy had been a walk on character who took over the strip.

  • Oh, awesome! I really liked Snuffy Smith comics as a kid.

  • Meanwhile, in today's Snuffy Smith comic...

  • I'm lost, of the two chaps in that strip neither looks like any Barney Google Image I can find.
  • The strip was originally Barney Google. According to Toonopedia, Snuffy Smith was introduced into the strip in the 1930s (while it was still being handled by Barney's creator, Billy DeBeck), and Barney was largely dropped in the 1950s.

In his heyday in the 1920s Barney owned a racehorse called Spark Plug, who appears with him in the Dick Tracy Sunday.

  • Ah, gotcha - the link went to the wrong strip, I see it now. Great stuff. Thanks.
