THE RETURN OF A LONG-LOST FLASH TO THE DC UNIVERSE!

It's finally here! The oversized, incredible, universe-changing 80-page DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1 from the genius mind of Geoff Johns is out this Wednesday, May 25th, and with it comes a shocking surprise…

…the return of the beloved Fastest-Man-Alive, the Fiery-Haired-Flash, the Scarlet-Speedster, the "missing" Titan, Wally West!

Lost in the Speed Force until this moment, Wally will rejoin teammates Donna Troy, Arsenal, Garth, Lilith and Nightwing for TITANS: REBIRTH #1, hitting shelves June 15th.

In order to keep the mystery alive, DC solicited a cover featuring Donna Troy, leaving fans to wonder if the lost Titan would ever make a return. But now that Wally has appeared in the pages of DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1, we can safely say the secret is out!

You can check out how he makes it home by picking up DC UNIVERSE: REBIRTH #1 this Wednesday, but you'll have to wait until TITANS: REBIRTH #1 to find out how the Titans react to his incredible reappearance.

Read more from writer Dan Abnett and artists Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund in June with TITANS: REBIRTH #1!

  • Looks like Johns is starting to reference his own stories for the big beats of his 'reality changing event comics'.

Did I hear that he was moving from comics into movies?  Probably for the best...

  • My analysis is that "The New 52" took the DCU away from Johns' vision for it, and he thought that was a mistake, and is using Rebirth as a restoration project. So, yeah, he's using old story beats, because that's the way he wants things to stay. Wally West said himself at the beginning of "Rebirth": "I look down at it and know without question: I love this world. But there's something missing."

And, yes, Johns is becoming co-chief of the movies, with some WB exec. This will be the last book he writes for a while, according to co-publisher Dan DiDio.

  • We've been talking quite a bit about Wally West on the Rebirth thread, but there's one thing I forgot to mention that is a better fit here: Wally West's costume.

First, I think the yellow and red Kid Flash costume was one of the best designs ever.

Second, I never though Barry's costume (or a variation thereof) was a good fit for Wally.

I really like Wally's new costume (in the pin-up), and the other Wally gets the classic.

  • Wally West was my first Flash, and I was just waiting for the tide to turn so he could come back. This is great news.

The return of Ted Kord and Ralph Dibney (in the pages of Secret Six for the latter) completes the trifecta as far as I'm concerned. I was a huge fan of the Justice League America/Justice League Europe era, and became a reader of Flash while that was going on in William Messner-Loebs's run, which transferred right into Mark Waid's masterful work.

This is what I really wanted from Brightest Day. This is the brightest day, as far as I'm concerned.
