Off work today (furlough day; I'm trying not to think about the fact that it's unpaid time off). I finished both the Unknown Soldier trade and the first Invisibles trade.
I've been working my way through the Atlas Era Heroes Marvel Masterworks tome, and I'm not going to lie to you. The Marvel Boy stories are pretty bad, and hard to plow through. I finally got to the latter half that had the Human Torch, Cap, and Namor and those are better. With Sub Mariner being the worst of the bunch so far.
I'm currently enjoying Dark Horse Archives' Dr. Solar, vol. 2. Paul S. Newman wrote some pretty darn entertaining stories!
Read the first four issues of The Invisibles Vol. 2: Apocalipstick, so I'll be rejoining the Morrison discussion thread later. Also half of Pluto: Urasawa X Tezuka Vol. 1. I finally found another manga I like (only Lone Wolf & Cub had really grabbed me before now). I'm only slightly familiar with Astro Boy, so I don't have any of the manga context for this story. But I enjoy it on its own. This world where robots and humans coexist uneasily is interesting (reminds me of Blade Runner, just a bit), I like the drawing style, and the murder mystery has me anxious to see how it all comes out.

Lone Wolf and Cub was a masterpiece, for sure. I started reading it from First publishing and had to wait years before Dark Horse published the end of the series. Thought I was never gonna find out how it ended.

The only other Manga I've got into was Death Note. It's really good. This kid is given the power to kill anyone he wants just by writing thier name in a Demon's notebook. Then another young detective has to figure out why these people are dying. and it becomes a battle of wits between these two extremely clever guys. Some great tense set pieces. I've onlt read the first 6 books - there are 12 - but I'll get back to it some day.
Yeah, I read all of Death Note, plus a related prose novel, and seen three live-action movies and some of the anime. You could say I enjoyed it.

Some of it is very intense. it seems the story goes off in a weird direction after #6, but i'll get around to it eventually...
Uncanny X-Men #245: Boys' night out with Rob Liefeld art.
Star Wars #105-107: The final three issues of the Marvel series.
Exiles #5-6: I had been holding off on these because I had missed #4, but I've finally given up on waiting for it to show up as a reorder. #5 was okay. #6 was great.
Finished the second Invisibles trade. Slept in too late to finish Pluto before work. So it's off to the Morrison thread later, probably not until tonight.
Finished the first volume of Pluto at lunch. Detective Gesicht meets Astro Boy (called "Atom" here, as in the Japanese original) right at the end. Talk about a cliffhanger! I've got the second volume on the way from another branch so I'll have it to read next week.
At lunch I read another Twilight Zone adaptation, of "Walking Distance." This is one of my favorite episodes, and the comic captured it pretty well. Still not really excited by this series. The scripts are good, but the art doesn't rise above competent.
I've been rereading Trinity. (Well, at this point I'm still rereading -- I stopped picking up the issues at #26, so the second half of the story will be all new.

I honestly like it even more than I did my first time through -- I have more confidence that Konvict will pay off than I originally did when he was introduced, for example -- and I also noticed one other thing:

I love Mark Bagley's art.

I've always considered him more of a utility player than a major star, but judging by the excellent expressions on people's faces, as well as the sheer clarity of the action, I realize I've been selling him far short. With this reread, he's become one of my favorite artists.
